Thumbs up dynoe'd my car again sunday

alright i had to tune up the seven sat after fri nites runs it crapped out when the temp suddenly got colder, nu plugs and wires fue filter and genny mazda t stat, fri nite run was what i thought was a good state of tune 49 horses at the wheels bone stock, came back with a tune and no fan 91 horsepower, got curious went got fan put back on 77 horse power, back off no airfilter lid 94 horse lid back on no plastic snorkel 94 snorkel back on 91horse, hp peak ocurred at 4800 and stayed flat as a pancake till i let off at 7k pulled third , and pulled fourth no diff, i think the peak is hindered by the exhaust , once i get the cats off i bet it will improve over what ever i get out off the cats by removing the lid off the filterthen itll be cold air intake time, got on free with yellew boots and elbows, goal is 125 at wheels before i touch the moter, got used 12 a out off another wrecck with 60 k im fitting the eaton m90 to so i can drop a complete one in instead of risking this one with only 15k
thats all for now, trevor

sorry about my spelling and syntax i think much faster than i type , doesnt help im trying to eat supper too , removing fan has giving me the best seat of pants feel u know the butt dyno ? my 87 na with no options , had no fan no cats , cold air and cone , it was faster and more fun to drive than my 90 t2 , and that was because the 2 was alot heavier with all that other crap, leather power speed sense steer ride adjust abs it was all crap , was almost 750 lbs heavier, built a flanged silencer out of mitzu exh, to put in for the big third cat, then ill make down pipe then ill run her again, then maybe pull every thing else off emissions related no sense keeping it original since i modded the body, trev

ok , first time out . the caar was bone stock , i had just painted it and got my wheels and tires on it, wasnt planning on dyno testing the car, but we were having a dyno party to celebrate getting the dyno up and running , we've been waiting and working towwards for two years . any way , had to tune it up rite after first run good thing too, i was surrounded by ls1 camaros laying down effortless 310's, so while i was tuning it up i looked through my fan collection, by the way i rent my shoop from a salvag e yard so i have constant acess to the freshest junk, the fan i chose was off the same car i got eatom m90 off of, 90 cougar xr7 , gotta love any car with those three letters in it huh? 2 speed fan for any occasion, whent back to the dyno sunday all gung ho and all you know. pulled the top off the air cleaner, 94 horsepower. all the other numbers i had to back track for , the state off tune is critical , followed by the fan , i dont believe a airflow increase will yield any more power ontill i get rid of the cats , at least i have a record of my improvements and their real world effects , also i love to hear that four barrel and the fart pipe when i pull fourth gear 2500 to 7k it takes awhile and people start to wonder when im gonna let off it, much better than the ls1 i think, thanks for reading my prattle, trev

ps i cant wait to bring the gs out mothballs and dyno'ing it, its a kenne bell 455 with a 585 lift cam ported heads 11 1 comp. im hopping for 500 horse, tee heeheeeheeee

As a comparison, my car ran 108hp at 6750... Cats removed, RB header and presilencer, Mindtrain Exhaust, RB air cleaner, and stock carb tuning... with the cats, it passed emissions beautifully...

Sounds like you have personal access to a dyno? I have a suggestion. Leave the snorkel off, remove the plastic flapper and cut the metal snorkel off right where the axle for the flapper was. Then dyno it. I guarantee itll go up. Look at the ICAI tutorial for pics of where Im talking about cutting. Yes get rid of the cats. Would be better if you got a good exhaust as thats the first step in bringing the powah out of a rotary. Then think about a better intake, like the one I have cooked up. The numbers that my flowbench have shown, and what the butt dyno have told me convinced me to pimp it sorry.

thanks for theinfo guys , as for the dyno , we have built a new shop and purchased a dynojet 248 its in the floor now and the shop is not near done , officed just framed two outlets in whole shop , propane salamander heater , you name it , its been four days and we've dynoed the same four cars almost a hundred times, we call it practice, im a driveability specialist and look forward to high speed diags, its kinda hard to drag a sun 450 scope down the highway 70 miles an hour chasing a chuggle, my partners are gonna do performance dynos and performance dyno tune ups and i plan on learning every available fmu software i can, im working on hondata rite now , tuning my buds 2000 civic with a vortech water air intercooled v-tech , its wicked badass, you can see the bad drippin' off it and leavin' big puddles., trev

Hey, I only now realized you're in Hutch. I'm in Manhattan until Christmas and would love to make a few pulls to back up yours (yeah, that's my motivation...) Lemme know if you'll be around. I'm curious what an opened up 12A with stock porting makes.

1st off it really suprises me the skeptiscm i hear from some, the forum wasnt so rough a couple years back ,cody ill take my dyno and my tuner mags and let my 14 year old post a few for ya, more n=on you level maybe? cryin shame i have to run out tomorrow to get new digicam and pic everything for ya umkaay? critoris just pm me when youll be near and ill open up for ya, rutnik the first pull was in dire nead of tune up it sounded fine but crapped out next day, the tune up was worth 25 horse, my typing and grammer will improve with practice , i havent spent alot of time on the computer since i sold my t2, in 2000, ive been working on my tech training and our shop, and running my own shop, I managed to get ase master certified, advanced engine performance , exhaust systems and under car specialist, all in 2.5 years ,3 tests a session no failors , my boss at the time had taken adv eng perf 3 times and didnt pass, infact my ave score on all tests was 90%. ive also had over 20hrs training on the sun 450 by a factory lemon buster from florida, arrogant f- -r
named jeff, i could go on but the reason i love the seven is the eng, better class of eng, and usually a better class of enthusiasts, thanks every one trev

Its a bit like Romper Room here, dont take it personally. Sounds like you are in a unique position to dispell myths and prove theories and I for one would love to see hard numbers to back up some of the claims people make.

Although the posts are a bit hard to read, I'm enjoying them. Facts based with dyno's - that's what we need more of. It would be real interesting to see what a full exhaust would bump your power to, but at least throw it on the dyno to see how the gutted cats helped out.

Welcome (back) and hope you can post up more interesting dyno info soon.

Makes me wish i had a dyno in my garage...not in a million years.

It's nice to see how you sqweese every possible HP out of that little motor but i personally would rather be that guy with the LS1 putting down respectable numbers while still working out some bugs. Just have no patience for slow engines anymore, i want to go so quick in a straight line that i would get scared! Haven't happened yet, that's why i'm getting a bike.

you say you think the 4800hp peak is hindered by the exhaust, i am proof that you are correct. my peak hit at 7200rpms; 107rwhp. stock port motor, untuned carb that needed rebuilding, some emissions off, racing beat header, custom 2.25" straight thru exhaust with two mufflers. i hope to get back on the dyno soon. thanks for you info rotarydankus. keep the improvments coming! i gotta try this intake stuff you guys are talking about!

rotarydankus, I'm right there with you now. You're first posts were a little hard to follow and some people hear get frustrated when there not smart enough to figure out what someone is trying to say with out the technical mumbal jumbal to fall back on. I'm pretty much like you, Old scool gearhead, you know, bigger cam, bore it out, all that stuff. If this were a V8 forum I'd come across alot different. But I think the rotor is fascinating and I'm really here to learn so I try to take some things at face value and hook up with the ones that obviuosly know how to do more than read a spec sheet of the latest aprt they bought.Hang around we could use someone like you here.
Happy Thankgiving!
Oh yea, I'm finding it's taking me alot longer to make a qaulity post now that I'm getting the feel for a forum.

finally ignition figured out, read related post, needless to say , now with the gutted cats and gooood fire im anxious to slap it on the rollers sat. ive trained 12yr old junior to help me strap it down and he takes them off and damn fast too, my boy! hey 12a bridge as for the ls1s every time they make a payment on the first i can build a car, ive only got 550.00 in mine total, 499.00 mikes pay. 530.00 matts payment, every month, its a easy descision for me, FBII im definatly looking for over 100. 105 maybe, man that cat mod has to be worth 10-15 horse, 94 +15=109
holly the dyno cost 33,000 not including del. or computer or air compressor for the roller load brake.
we saved 2k picking it up ourselves 7200lbs in crate, gooseneck trailr , chevy hd with duramax and 6 speed, 330 fuel two packs of cigs felt like blues bros, brian i appreciate your sentiments , the R's got something i dig , dont know what , maybe shifting at 7k , or maybe the wail it makes through 4th gear, maybe the horsepower to weight to liter aspect,[apply that formula to lsi 1 .1 liter=100 hp 5.7 ltr=520? uhhuh ] i dont know . this my third and its revived my interest good , seriously eying that eaton m90, heres a tease of my car.
