Dust in rear light housings
Dust in rear light housings
Well, I'm back after 6 years, I bought back my 84 GSLSE from the person I sold it to 6 years ago. I have owned 4 1st generation Rexes and have been happy with all of them but the SE now wears a racing header, a racing exhaust system which has to be quietened down, says the local Mountie, (I'm in Canada). So I need to put some kind of muffler. Right now there is no cat, the pipe under the cat has seemingly 3 mini cherrybombs and the last part is a small box with 2 huge chrome tailpipes. Anyway the noise gives me a headache and I want this car a a long distance tourer not as a racer. Any ideas as to how to quieten it down? What kind of muffler under the car, I'd like to keep these awesome tailpipes.
Question 2 is, my rear lenses are full of dust and crud. Looks like the outer lense is firmly stuck to the inner one, so I just cant pull it off and rinse it out. All my Gen 1 Rexes had this problem. What to do?
thanks, glad to be back in RX7 land.

install yourself a presilencer after the header to quiet it down and a good racing beat muffler. that should do the trick. as far as the dust, it sounds like you have some weather stripping that is rotten around the lights.
If there is dust inside the lights themselves, the seal is compromised. You can remove the outer lense, clean the inside and remove the old sealant and reseal them. A heat gun on the low setting and careful prying will seperate the lense from the housing.
If dust is getting inside the car, the rubber seals behind the tail lights need to be either reset or replaced.
