Dual muffler exhaust system
I have seen that they use the dual mufflers on the later model sevens and there is the dual pipe system that Racing Beat offers.
I wonder how a dual muffler system on the 1st gen would work? Lets say cutting off the flange at the header. Then running seperate pipes to the driverside and passengerside with silencers and mufflers before the axle. Then maybe extend the pipes over the axles and out the back?
Does anyone know why they switched to dual mufflers on the 2nd gens? Was it a torque or HP thing?

When I was at a muffler shop once looking for something to do on my other vehicle. The guy stated that a single muffler system would be good for torque and a dual would be better for HP and higher RPM.

The RB dual system keeps the rotor pulses seperate up to the axle, which is a proven power making setup. They merge because there is only room for one muffler back there,in regards to anything that can actually muffle a rotary. Its possible to put two vertically mounted,or slim bodied mufflers back there, but its likely to be loud. There is no room to get around the gas tank for a left side exhaust exit.I have seen at least one car with dual outlets, but I have no idea how they cleared the tank,or if there was a muffler on that side. Not a great idea either way, considering the heat of the rotary exhaust.
There was a true dual system for the 2nd gens, although it seems to be no longer offered in the old configuration. It was claimed to be the biggest power maker of the RB systems, but it might be that they came up with something better.I did notice recently that the N/A 2nd gen systems are using the bigger,TII presilencer now, rather than the heavier, dual presilencers that are on the 1st gen systems. It looks to be a dual in-dual out version of the TII unit, although Im not sure if it actually keeps things totally seperate inside the can.I have the single version of that presilencer that I use as a "loud" main muffler alternative to my quiet RB muffler. Its tough enough to handle a rotary, but its pretty loud. This unit might make a good choice for a true dual 1st gen main muffler. It can can take the heat, but be loud like a Dynomax or other straight through unit.

You're not the first person to ask about a dual exhaust setup. Sadly, there's not enough room at the rear of our cars to utilize such a deal like Steve mentioned. And, really, you can still get extra HP at high RPM just by running a straight pipe. Tho, it will be loud as hell.
Stick with a Racing Beat unit and you'll be happy. A lot of people can vouch for them.

Nice looking old schooler wacky, that's sweet. Is it loud. Have you had anything to compare the system to HP or Torque feel wise with dual verus single mufflers. I take it you have 2 pipes coming from the header?

You want to know if it's loud? He's getting so old, hearing isn't an issue for him anymore.
But seriously, I believe he was the one who had a yellow RX-3. He had a video of that think at the track, and wow was that thing loud. Sound like a bunch of pissed off hornets on steroids stuck inside an oil drum.

Man. A choppy, pixelated video and he doesn't even bother to rev the damn thing. What are we going to do with you, Wacky? I'm going to have to talk to the Doc about you and have him set you straight.

Quite honestly, I have been trying to blow this motor by over revving the hell out of it but it just wont blow. I have over 50,000 miles of daily abuse especially the first 10,000 miles of drag and canyon runs. I guess I built it right the first time (rotors pined, modified e-shaft and ROPR). My wife wont let me built a bridge or the p-port unless this one blows.

Quit stalling, give us a video of you revving the hell out of that thing! I loved how it sounded when it was yellow. Now, I want to hear this version. C'mon, hook a brother up!
Oh yeah, have you ever thought of having your side marker lenses flush mounted (frenched?) into your car's body? That would give it a slick look.
