Drum to Disc?

Might be able to get my hands on Rear disk brakes from GSL-SE for my 84 GS (which currently has drums) Can/has this been done? Level of difficult? Worth it? Things to be aware of?

Thanks in advance..

Beware the SE has a different stud pattern at 114.3 so your front to rear will be different.

remove gs rear end install SE then remove SE axles and install gs axles so long as your gs is 84 85 this will work and while your at it install new wheel bearings now all your need is some gsl rotors.

Huh?!

He said he can get SE brakes....brakes,not a rearend. You cant install SE brakes onto GS axles or any 1st gen axles for that matter, since the lug pattern is different.

Cmonteiro1, you can't bolt disc brakes to a drum axle. The bolt pattern on the rearend for the backing plates is different, and there are no tabs on the drum axle to bolt the calipers to.You MUCH better off looking for a complete 81-85 GSL rearend.Itll bolt right up,youll get the discs and LSD rearend, and you wont have to worry about the lug pattern changing.
The SE rearend is even better, with bigger brakes and lower gearing. But they are much harder to find than the GSL and you have to change wheels due to the SE having a different lug pattern.

Don't forget e-brake cables. Drum, GSL and GSL-SE are all different.

Make sure you get the e-brake cables. Grab the drive shaft if the GS is not an 84-85.
