Driving Lights!!
Driving Lights!!
I'm thinking of getting auxilary driving lights. Either Piaa or Hella. I kinda like the old round headlight size ones but are the new little ones they are coming out with better?
I like the smaller ones, if only that they fit into my airdam holes better.
As far as quality goes, I have yet to find a good quality pair of driving lights (projection beams, not 'fog' flood lights) that use both the newer type of bulbs, and also feature glass lenses. I have a set of Pilot driving lights on there now that use the older style of bulbs (single lead, not component) that have glass lenses and yellow beams, but would like to have the H4 Halogen bulbs (component) that also have glass lenses.
Glass lenses don't have to be cleaned as often and will stay clear much longer than plexiglas or the cheap plastic that some makers use. After awhile, because of where they're mounted, you'll find heavy pitting will seriously degrade lighting performance.
Also, be sure that you use the relay switches that are provided with any good quality lighting system - they draw way too much current to run them off of a standard switch, and you'll end up with problems if you don't hook them up correctly.
For driving out here in the desert (AZ), a good set of driving lights allows you to project light much further, increasing your ability to see farther and thus, drive faster at night. I only drive as fast as I can see to brake in time...
Have 2 sets installed currently, the small Pilot yellow beams for twilight and daytime use, and the white circular beams that you see in my signature line - both help to increase frontal lighting, along with new Sylvania main bulbs (55/65) which should be your first investment in better night driving.

The wattage also plays a part in how much light is put out. a 100 watt bulb will melt plastic, fibreglass, A 55 watt bulb is not as bright as the 100's but theres alot more styles of lamp. If the need for more light is a must go 100 watt, all metal, and glass, no plastic(s). don't forget to get some good h4 'beams' and that should be pretty good lighting by itself.
Well here are mine:
