Driveshaft not bolting to GSLSE rear

Well, I did do a little research on this by reading this:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...lse+driveshaft

Here's the thing - My driveshaft seems to have the larger diameter bolt pattern than the gsl-se rear end. So this means the rear end has been swapped to smaller flange? I dont really know how to check this, except to get another driveshaft and try it out.

My driveshaft came with nuts and bolts, but this rear flange is actually threaded. Hope that helps. BTW, car is an 85 GS

The threaded pinion flange indicates an earlier small axle diff. If that was the case, you wouldn't have the SE wheel pattern. Simplest swap would be to use an early driveshaft. Otherwise that thread should answer any questions you have.

I can't believe someone would take a gslse third member and swap out flanges. I believe you might have a gslse rear with an 84-85 gsl third member which should be posi but either a 3.90 or 3.93 gear vice a 4.09 gslse gear (both would have 26 spline large axle). The front flange on third member is interchangeable between gslse (large diameter) and small diameter flanges they are same spline count. I did the swap at one time and lucked out because my third member did not make noises (humm) once flanges were swapped. Friends that had done the same swap weren't so lucky. If you can't get a flange from a gslse, the 95-99 4x4 Kia sportage front differential third member flange is interchangeable and same size as large flange gslse.

Yeah, I got this confirmed earlier when I went to a friends house that has an SA and it was the same flange as the one on my car. I am pretty sure it is the SE wheel pattern, it could be a diff from a GSL. I already have 4x114.3 wheels on it, and they go on the studs fine without looking off at all.

Thanks for that info, that helps. I don't think I'll be trying to swap flanges - just feel like that sort of thing is out of my league for now. I'll just have to find a driveshaft from an earlier model.
