I have an 85 gsl-se. When I drive it I hear a constant "knocking" noise that sounds like its coming frommy driveshaft. It does it even when the tranny is in neutral. It sounds like it knocks every time the driveshaft turns. If I lift up on my shifter, it goes away. Does anyone know what this is? Just a worn bushing or something I am hopeing. Thanks for your time.

sounds like a driveshaft. lift the car and remove the driveshaft. if the u-joints are stiff, then time to get a new or used from junk yard. the u-joints are not replaceable but if you can find a machine shop who is willing to take his time grinding the o-clip then it can be done. a new u-joint will cost appx $12-$20

 

You might also check to see if the trans mount is still OK. If broken it can let the tranny side of the mount hit the crossmember.Rob
