Drive shaft question

In doing an auto to manual conversion I
tried to install what I was told was a driveshaft for a manual.
It’s too long by a good inch and half.
I put it alongside the auto driveshaft I removed, they’re the exact same length.
Should a manual drive shaft be shorter?
Also will an FB driveshaft work on an SA?

1984/1985 FB Auto and Manual drive shafts lengths are 38.1 inches. (source: Section 8 of 1985 Factory Service Manual)

I could not find the 1979/1980 SA length but I don't believe the SA/FB S3 are the same. Can't speak for the SA/FB S2.
