drifting
any first gen guys into drifting? Does anyone know any sites with more information regarding drifting a first gen? I enjoy doing it every now and then, but I also would like to keep the car pretty flexible. Meaning I want to be able to drive it on the street, go to track days/auto crosses or go to drift events.
I hope this thread is in the right spot

Yeah I've attempted it in the first gen and l tell you it is very hard compared to a S13 its not hard to get it sideways but its hard to keep it there and really be in control. But its possible the biggest difficulty is the steering system in a first gen it makes the car really hard to correct and you have to be spot on. If you are serious about drifting I would say a rack and pinion conversion is necessary. But Id go for it every car has its difficulties and the FB would probably be good considering its similarity to the AE86 in size and weight.

let alex pheiffer drive it... all you need is an LSD, and a little power and these do really well

its supposed to do that
First gens have great balance, and with a few mods slide quite well. Good shocks, springs, and LSD will get you going, then its seat time, seat time, seat time.
400# front springs and 250-275 rear is a good compromise between street and track.
A stock LSD will stand up to quite a bit of abuse, shim it up to ~100-120ft/lb of breakaway torque.

Right now I have the stock LSD, modded stock carb with nice plugs. It will chirp 2nd better than I ever expected from this small amount of power. It breaks loose around corners when I do it correctly. So far, the car is out driving me. I havn't had enough seat time to be able to slide it correctly. I have a set of 400# springs. I installed them on the stock shocks but things were out of control with those. So until I get a set of shocks I am sticking to the stock suspension.
here is the car in question.
In the video you can see the previous owner's wiring mess. There is a little box with jumper wires all in it and a positive lead from the batter hooked up to it. It's bolted to the strut tower.

but i had spent alot of time in the car practicing and there are always corners you think you got and then dont never hurt the car though just went into the raspberrys occaisionally
