Dreaming of FI
So I keep pretty busy working so I can afford parts for my RX-7. Need to afford parts somehow. I have an 84 GSL with a wore out carb. I have removed the rats nest and rebuilt carb but not had much improvement. Other than that she has short throw shifter and header with exhaust u can hear 5 miles away from what Im told. She has a hard cold start and a bad drop out during acceleration. When she is running she runs decent. I search a bit for a carb to replace it but ,from what I can find, I think it might be just as well to switch to Fuel injection. The only complete kit I can find is from Summit for $1750. Cheapest carb I can find is $1000. have I just not had enough time to search. Again busy workin so I can afford to do anything. What I am wondering is if I would be better to go with a complete kit or should I start to track down parts 1 at a time and go that route? I need this car more reliable than able to perform but both would be nice. Due to weather I have a bit of time today so Im thinking of trying to install DLIDFIS in just a little while. I have so little time to search for info its hard to know if Im really ready sometimes. Tips and advice will be gladly appreciated. Also looking for other RX-7 owners in my area if there is any out here in nowhere IL. thanks

Here's a link to a topic I started a while back when I was investigating fuel injection, specifically aftermarket throttle bodies and such. If you can find a used Dellorto or Weber + Manifold + a proper fuel pump it can be had for under $600
But this will atleast give you a few options:

It depends on how much you're willing to get your hands dirty. If you're willing/able to do some fabrication, add some injector bungs to the stock intake manifold and use the stock carb as a throttle body. Total cost: injectors, fuel pump, FPR, fuel rail, EFI soft fuel line, IAT and CLT sensors, and a MegaSquirt.
Also, that Summit kit does not include the intake manifold, does it?

Have you looked at Powerinjection 3 from Professional Products?
http://www.professional-products.com/EFI_3.php
I was thinking of going that route in my rally Car. Mount a Racing beat holly manifold, and the Powerinjection 3. I talked to director of Engineering there, Ken, and he assured me it would work just fine on a a rotary. I would only need to adjust the rpms on the fuel table as the maps it comes with are for pistons motors with lower red lines.

you can have the guys at sr racing rebuild your nikki stripped they are talking about making em boostprepped etc as well http://www.srraceengineering.com . I know its not FI but a rebuilt professionally stripped nikki will likely be cheaper. I cant find the thread but while I was digging a while ago saw someone who was using some Renesis motor FI bits too. I havent gone FI because I couldnt make heads or tails out of all the megasquirt stuff the websites and forums Ive found werent too helpful I was considering going FI with my current project but Carb refresh will have her on the road sooner.
