Double pulley or yoohoo belt?
Nice engine bay on your seven.........
Is that a second gen alt on there?
and another question...is that a fram oil filter?
Another forum says they are the worst filters out there......if it is how are they on rotaries.........

yes im using a turbo II 70 amps alternator along with the fuse box. Fram oil filter for now during the engine break in period since I have to change the oil every 500 miles.
BTW, I believe my compadre picked up the 510's serpentine wide-belt set up from atkins.

I run a dual pulley -
I don't have a lot of faith in that fractional HP YooHoo belt - it doesn't fit snug (if it did, you wouldn't get it on to begin with and it would most likely snap) - after all, it's a belt built for electric motors - it may serve as a cheaper alternative to a duel pulley but it isn't as effective or safe (IMO).

Mine used to slip when I played around in my 7. You know, doing doughnuts and insane burnouts. I would keep the engine around 7 grand with the wheels spinning. After I did this though, EVERY time I ended up getting a new Alternator belt soon after. I think w/o using any other belts other than the Alt, the Alt can't rev as fast/quick as the engine so the belt slips at such a high RPM.
Maybe I just had a bad Alternator.......
Anyway, my 2 cents.

Northern 7, I found a real automotive V belt that is close in size to the yoohoo belt. I found it at Napa.
There's a way to run yoohoo belts only. Put one on the alt and waterpump and tension it with the alt. The other just goes around the waterpump and the main drive pulley. This is the perfect way to 'break in' a new Napa yoohoo belt due to its slightly too-wide-for-the-pulley width. As it wears, you can retension it untill it stops stretching. Once it's done, it'll go into the main drive and waterpump pullies just fine.
I installed a used Napa yoohoo belt on my rotary MG and it went on just fine and the tension feels great (not too tight but not too loose).

Yeah, those 3L220 belts seemed a little weak to me too. However, the problem with the Napa belt is it's a little wide for the Mazda pulley sheaves. It needs a chance to break-in, but after that, it's perfect.
Just yesterday I tried installing a new Napa belt on the alt and waterpump. It seems workable, but you'd still need a yoohoo belt on the main drive and waterpump pullies, so it's not as simple as what most people would want to do. But it is a nice way to break-in the Napa belt for use on a different engine. Just lift and retighten the alternator as the belt wears into the pulley sheaves.

There is another pulley setup out there also. It might be custom but I've seen it a few time. It uses a belt and pulleys like the dragsters at the track use, with the notches in them. Those would be impossible to slip.
