Don't You Love IT

Dont you love it when you are driving along and all the sudden a First gen RX7 catches your eye...especially in a place like Juneau...there is not a road outta this place. Totally isolated. I was driving along on the one stretch of two lane road we have and a Beautiful red 84' merges out right next to me(licence plate 84RX7)...we made eye contact and paced each other for a few miles and i went on my way...I will add this to my count of first gens here in Juneau...this makes 4, and boy was it a beauty.

1st gens are great to find driving around, especially when they're in good shape. Finding any Rx is a good day. The only time I don't get all crazy is when its a 8, most of the time its some person that doesn't know the history of the Rx.

a lot of Rx8 owners don't even know that they have a rotary engine in there 8. There girls a lot of the time too. I'm not saying girls don't know cars, but most don't.

damm you guys are FB deprived, it was raining so hard today and I still saw three different FB's today

I take a certain back street near my house to take a look at this guys driveway who has 2 FB's, a SA, and a RX2,3,4,5 -not really good at telling what is what with those.

Better start doing your research then! haha just kidding.

I am definitely FB deprived. I never see FB's anywhere unless they are parked and haven't moved since before I got my license. Although, I know where all of those are and can easily drive past and say I saw three that day. haha.

Its just four rotaries. The guy doesn't know if the other one was an Rx2, Rx3, Rx4, or Rx5.

yeah, i don't see many rx7's around here, but when I do, I go all crazy with flipping up my lights and honking to get their attention. Maybe I'm crazy, or maybe I'm just lonely.

I always get and return waves to other RXs, even from a few 8s.

Although most of the time I get some old dude (I'm in my 20s for reference) smiling and saying "That was my first car!"

I'll tell you what's really cool (sort of related, but not really)...I bought my '79 brand new in May, 1978. I can't count how many times I was sitting at a stop light and had someone yell over "nice car" when it was new...what a rush!

thats how i made a friend one time. i had just moved to houston and i was driving down fm1960 to the mall and i caught the view of one in my side mirror that was about to pass me,when he did i saw that it had a mirah widebody kit on it. he ended up going to the mall also so i stopped and talked to him. it was a very nice looking 85 GSL-SE with mariah widebody and hatch.
other than that i have seen a few from time to time

I'm certainly glad to see so many RX-8s out there, to know that the rotary is really back, but there's no sense of comunity! When I honk at them in my FB, most of them think I'm mad at them or something!

BRONCE, I'm surprised/disappointed that you didn't stop and talk to him. I was in my 2nd gen one day and saw a TII the same color going the other way down the main drag, waved at him, he waved back. I was turning at the time and kept on my way. Before I knew it, he was behind me and followed me home. He's a good rotary friend now.

I just got back from the parts store and the gas station in the widebody. Seems like I can't go any where without having to open the hood and show it off, explain about the rotary and the mods or the 1/2 dozen other people that simply pull up and say 'hey, nice car' or 'I love that body kit'. It did get called a Nissan today, that was a first. Then there was the other guy who knew it had a rotary engine in it and wanted to know which cam I had. I can't blame him though, it does idle like it has a big *** cam.

It's funny driving down the street and hitting it, just to watch the reaction from people standing out in thier yards. The younger guys, even kids, are pumping thier arm and fist up and down for more, while the 'old guys', my age and even younger, are shaking thier fists at me in anger. It's a hoot.

I would have followed him if I were not so damn cold...I got no sunroof and at 12 degrees the ride tends to get a little chilly! I am by far one of the most isolated persons on the forum(considering you can only fly or boat out of this place)so it was a rush of joy to see that 84' right next to me!

I was getting to work the other day, and stepped out of the truck to see a charcoal FB zoom by with a rear window louver on it. The same day I was delivering some parts, and was sitting at a light. A pickup truck rolls by towing a trailer. On it was a mildewed but all original white early 1st gen. It felt good seeing it on a trailer alone, and not underneath some other car on a flatbed. Maybe it was off to get restored, hehe.

Ouch, just hearing 12* sends shivers down my spine and knots up those back muscles in spasms. I don't even wish to think about driving without a sunroof on top of that. Since you're landlocked, my money is on you seeing him again since I haven't seen a 7 that floats or flys for any distance yet.

I've only seen one or two 1st gens on the road this year and I'm out there alot, putting about 30,000 miles on my 84 GSL each year. Maybe most of the few remaining running 1st gens are ending up on isolated islands like Juneau.

You do see quite a few RX8s around here in NE Georgia, but most of their drivers don't seem to have a clue about 1st gens. My 84 is an eye catching example of a stock 1st gen, but the RX8 drivers, most of them women for some reason, don't seem to notice its even related to their shinny new cars. But then, maybe it's me, not my car?

Doesn't bother me too much, it reminds me of a time about 10 years ago when I encountered a car full of teenagers in a parking lot while driving my '78 MGB and one of the girls said "what kind of car is that?"

My MGB was that bright orange color with chrome wire wheels and that big black decal running down the side with the "MGB" blazened in large letters. When I told her, trying not to look at the decal, it was an MGB, she returned nothing but a blank stare. At least the guys had a chuckle.

No wonder we are stuck in Irac, kids don't know anything about history these days!

I don't know why you guys are FB deprived, but here in Vancouver I see them quite regularly. Just in the tiny suburban town I live in there's a sweet GSL and a rather rough white SA. I can hardly go a week without seeing a first gen of some description zip by, usualy going the other way while I'm driving my work car
though. Than there's all the cars I see whenever I go to SNKs. Just yesterday I met a guy with a red SA with a half bridge and nasty dent in the rear quarter panel. There's evan a REPU there. Yes a REPU!

theres almost nobody around my house with a first gen. just one i know an one mint charcoal grey SA i saw on the way to school. i waved and honked since i was in my 80, but it was an older guy that gave me an agry look.

the other guy spotted my car in a walmart parking lot. i went in to get paint and this guy came up to me driving his scooter and the first thing he said "I like the 80, but my gsl would kick its ***". i followed him home and hes the only gy around here that as as enthusiastic about 7's as me.
