dont you hate it.....

it pisses me off when im looking thru and auto watch or auto locator and i see an rx7 and the description goes something like..... " 87 rx7, 4 cylander". especially when its a private sale where someone is selling their personal car. it pisses me off when people dont have any idea about there own cars. ive seen rx7s described as "4 cyl", "4 cylander rotary", "2 cylander" (which is the closest but still way off).

.. last week my friend (96 GTI) had a problem with his car and wanted me to take a look under the hood. When i opened the hood (i wouldnt doubt for the first time ever), his eyes got all big and he had this confused look on his face when he saw the engine compartment.

i dunno.... it just amazes me at how many people there are who know absolutely nothing about cars.

Yeah, that's pretty annoying when people mis-represent their engine or car.

LOL. I've known people that don't even know the model of their car. That would be scary if they didn't know the manufacturer...

what I cant stand are the idiots at Pep boys, autozone, etc. who wont get it through their head that its not a cylinder engine. It usually goes like this:

me: Hi i need a ______ for an 84 mazda rx7
them: is that carb or fuel injected?
me: carb
them: is that the 4 cylinder or V6?

I had one guy go so far as to say, "theres no such thing, it has to have cylinders"

Yeah I hung up on him.

AND THESE PEOPLE ARE SUPPOSED TO KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT CARS!!!

idiots!

LOL. NAPA always asks, "Is that the 70 series or the 90 series engine?" And Parts Plus claims it's a "2 cylinder"

Hey ive been a Pep Boy for 3 years Now!! But I know exactly what you are talking about Gatorgunner! I have to work with the idiots everyday! Whenever someone with a RX-7 or any other import for that mater comes in, my co-workers are like "Let me get Jason, he's the import expert; I don't know nothin bout' that." or "Hey Rotary boy, this guy has a question." Oh well, it pays my way through college!! I guess i dont have room to say much though, about five years ago (i'm 20 now) I thought that the big blue aircleaner on the first gens was actually the "rotor!" When I was about 16, my friend wanted to buy a 2nd gen, so I went with him. The first one that we looked at was a charcoal 87', when we popped the hood I insisted that the engine wasn't a rotary because it was missing the "big blue Rotor housing on top!!" I am still embarrased to tell this story. Trust me, I have come along way with my knowledge!

That's okay, our great state of Missouri requires one to pay a personal property tax on cars each year (and other stuff, but we'll leave that alone). When one buys a new or used car you have to get a waiver on it saying you did not own it the previous year and do not owe this tax on it (you still have to pay sales tax though). When I went in to get my waiver, one of the questions asked is how many cylinders. I told the lady behind the counter none, it's a rotary. She just gave me a blank stare and then asked if it had doors! Guess she thought it was a lawn mower. So I told her since my title says 4cyl just put that down. I'm guessing the Missouri vehicle database doesn't have rotary as a choice. Oh yeah, you hear me right. My title says I have a 4cyl. RX-7.

1984 Mazda Rx-7

Here you go. This one has a "4 cylinder (rotory) engine". No offense to the seller though; just thought I'd point this out since it DOES happen

We have a yearly vehicle inspection overhere... Went there with my Mariah First Gen. "What's that??? A Wankel ??? Oh boy!".
Went there with an imported FD I bought in Germany...
"Yes it's a rotary, but it does have cylinders"
I say "no it does NOT have cylinders". He again: "Yes it has" and he looks at me like I am the idiot!?
And these guys are going to see if the car is OK?
BTW: tittle states it's a 2300cc (12A) or a 2600cc (13B) but no cylinders there :-)
