Unhappy Don't know what to do

Hoping someone could give me some advice. Yesterday I was shifting to second gear when all of sudden she revs all the way up to 10 RPM. Pull over shut it off, go to start again revs up to 10 RPM. Next smoke is coming from under the car. What do I see. The cats glowing bright red. Let me start at by saying right after I bought in 2000 I find out she has the dreaded dowel pin leak. So of course she leaks a little oil. Glowing cat + oil = fire. I was lucky got it put out. Was hoping someone could give me some advice or a contact in Dallas Texas that could look at it. It's a 84 GSL with about 138M miles.

Check your throttle linkage, make sure its not binding or stuck....

I do not think that the two things are related (high revs & glowing cat) The revs most likely as already stated is due to a problem with your throttle linkage/carb. The glowing cat. is probably clogged and needs to be replaced.

Id check your are the linkage to your throttle I had the same problem, but mine would idle at 3k not 10k. Also I would just go ahead a replace the cat, sounds like it is clogged up making it heat up and glow.

Agree. 2 problems. Throttle linkage and clogged cat. covverter. Cheaper and safer to replace the converter with a strait pipe kit for offroad use only (wink, wink).
