why would u go to 2nd... you should atleast be able to tell it cant do it when accelerating. 2nd gear at 4,000 is about 30mph so going 50-55mph into 2nd is a obviously not going to work.

im pretty sure if u did that would be extreamly hard to change gear to second and also it would of been redlining either blow gearbox or motor or maybe evan diff

downshifting from 3-4 or 5-4 for speed but not second ****

If you had the ability to change the rear end you'd know not to change to 2nd at 55mph.

Now you're being ridiculous, and trans change would be to close the ratios and would mean more RPM to the rear.

I downshifted from 5th to second Of course that was after some heavy braking, the *** hole in front of me slammed on his brakes.... But yeah, that was a pretty stupid thing to do.

that's normal..you matched speed..he did it to go faster...lmao..not sure how someone would think that would work...
when im on the freeway and need to scoot I usually grab 4th from 5th..tho I find simply mashing the gas seems to be effective, sometimes more so..
going down to 3rd seems to make more noise than forward momentum

What blows my mind is he downshifted to accelerate (to catch a Civic of all things) not to slow the car, which would have been bad, but not as bad as having your foot into it. Changed to 2nd at 55, come on, what car can do that with a 3.9 diff.

Yeah I know what I did was okay, I was being sarcastic not that you could get that from just reading it. But if anything dropping it into second like that would decellerate you. Because the gearing (as stated before) in the trans and differential would naturally want to slow down. It would be too much of a load on the engine to push the drivetrain that hard and POP, apex out the tail pipe All that pressure had to go somewhere. You cant expect to push something that hard without breaking it. The only time I EVER need to downshift to accelerate is when I am in fifth. But that is simply the nature of the gear, it is just to tall to get good acceleration out of. But everything I am saying now has already been covered so, anyways... +1 for this guy being a moron and not deserving a 7...

I went down from fifth to second before as well... as I was slowing down to hit a side road off of a highway.
