Doing megasquirt FI conversion 12a

Well, this weekend I hope to finish my FI setup. I started building the MS ecu earlier this month and compiling parts. Last week I finished much of the work. jorx81 is doing my exhaust setup. I got a couple pics up here:
(sorry, no writeups)
http://home.mindspring.com/~wilkinsj...0FI%20project/

I haven't totaled up the expenses exactly yet, but from the top of my head:
175 TB and fuel rail w/ TPS, Weber IDF made by CB Performance, obtained from ebay
90 fuel pump, new from advanced auto
60 custom IDF to 12a intake mani (actually $60 + other parts I traded for compensation it's good to know welders)
20 injectors (junkyard pull from a s4 FC)
200 in megasquirt parts (includes stimulator and relay boards and parts)
60 in misc parts like connectors and hoses, fittings, etc..
75 in sensors (Including waaaaaaaay overpriced GM parts. Don't let anyone tell you that american parts are cheaper.)
Around $700 total...(rounding up for forgotten expenses)
I had planned about $500-600, and it turned out to be a bit more, but for a fully tunable FI conversion, it's still a good deal. If I could have found more available junkyard parts, I could have made it for maybe $100 cheaper, but I bought new connectors and sensors from GM, and a new fuel pump from advanced auto. Anyways, Mike Robert (who has converted already) has helped a lot and I'm hoping to finish this Sunday.

Good luck to you. I bought my megasquirt stuff almost a year ago now... it's sitting here on my desk. I hope your install goes a little faster than mine is going.

Thats a great setup there. Where exactly do you find the main parts (being throttle body, and ecu). Is there anything that you read that helped you learn all you need to get it set up? thanks.

The throttle body can be obtained new from CB Performance (popular aircooled parts folks) for about $225, but I got mine on ebay for $175 shipped. It's a nice, solid TB. 48mm openings and 40mm butterflies. Injector bungs built in. Plenty for stockport or streetport. Intake mani was fabbed up by a friend of mine.
The ECU is megasquirt. I read up on their website, ordered the kit and parts, then followed the directions for assembly. Not difficult, in fact, I'd say it was fun. Let me also say that building your own ecu is very cool. Especially after you hook it up to your computer and start monitoring things...

My friend Tim Schuh is running a MegaSquirt on his '84 GSL-SE autocross car. We put an FC intake manifold on at the same time. Between the 'Squirt, the intake, and the removal of the AFM, he picked up something like 20HP. We used all the factory sensors and wires. We had to run one wire for... something, I forget what, and I had to change the reference for the sensors from the factory 5V to a ground reference, and use a relay to change polarity on the fuel pump relay.
Some pictures of the install, and mods to the lower intake to block of the GSL-SE EGR port in the center iron: MegaSquirt Install , Intake mods
