Yep. Something like this was in the lounge a few weeks ago. It's a Negerian scam. He/she will tell you to send them the money to Athens and switch and say to wire them the money to Nigeria.

Always use an escrow company (that you've chosen, not them) on this type of purchase. If they don't agree to escrow, back off, it's probably a scam. Every once in a while, " too good to be true", is true. We've just become so skeptical that we miss the really good deals. Just always make sure your 100% protected.

Exactly. Unless you have a middle man, I wouldn't go through with it. It's a haggle.

I was looking at a 66 GTO on eBay a while back and got the same exact email from the seller, but with a different name, and they wanted me to Western Union a $3000 deposit to somewhere in England. I suspected it was a scam, so I wrote back and told them I wasn't interested anymore, but I had a friend with the FBI that collected classic muscle cars - I got an immediate reply saying that the car was no longer for sale - when I tried to reply, the email address was no longer valid!

Just call Lufthansa Air Cargo in Athens, Greece and find out two things: Do they have the car ? How much does it cost to send a car from here to there ? The answers to either or both of those questions will tell you what you want to know.

I got the same basic letter four different times from different ebay sellers when I was looking at 63-67 Corvettes this summer. Car is in Italy, belonged to my dead grandfather, need the money to pay for shipping, yada yada.... only selling for $8000. Each time ebay cancelled the auction before it was completed.

The scams are out there folks....

Common scam - they will want payment by Western Union since there's no recourse. Mention an escrow company and they will disappear.
