Does anybody have any pics of a mounted GSL-SE rear caliper?

Bliffle,

Maybe you could take a pic of your setup so that we can compare? I have found the parts fiche to be accurate not to mention that all sources that I have ever seen show the SE as vented on all 4 rotors. Now the solid rotors could maybe be explained that someone put aftermarket rotors on that happened to be solid. Weird that both cars would be this way, though. Maybe with some pics, we can compare the calipers and see how they compare to the GSL or GSL-SE calipers.

Actually sorry.

gsl-se Addict, I think you were the one who said the part numbers were only 1.

Mazda part number lists aren't great. Doing my research last night I found the oil pump part numbers for a SE and a non SE are the same. But the pumps are in fact different.

Just something to be aware of in some cases.

Pretty sure that the SE and non-SE pumps are the same (17.5 mm). The earlier 12A pumps are smaller.

Anyway, I have had a fair amount of experience with the parts fiche and has been accurate for everything that I have found. Some numbers have been superceeded, but other than that, they seem to be accurate.

Why would they put solid dics on the rear? Especially going vented-->solid. I could see a mid-year upgrade, but not a downgrade. I've been dealing with SEs for a long time and have never seen/heard of any with solid rears. Brochures, parts fiche, part stores, service manual, etc. all show vented. I am not sure what is going on here...

Bliffle: maybe you could measure the diameter of the discs. Should be a hair over 10" if they are SE.

man am i getting mixed info then lol! i give up Pertaining to that the description says for the race pump: "Gear set and shaft are heat treated to reduce wear. Impeller width, 17.5mm, is larger than stock oil pumps (except GSL-SE)."

But thats not related. Crazy mazda parts

I may have the scored rotor that I removed still sitting in the garage. I'll look tomorrow.

And it's not just one car involved in this apparent anomaly, but 3!

Maybe my SE stock rear rotors were vented, I'll have to check in storage to see. I'm 100% sure that I have an SE axle, because I bought the complete car and verified the VIN and the bolt pattern on the wheels. I'm using the stock SE wheels for the time being, and I'll post pics of what I've got as soon as I get a chance-I don't have much time online since I can only get on at work now, but I'll post 'em when I get a chance...

BTW-thanks for all your help and input guys...

Looked for the old scored rotor but it wasn't there - I must have thrown it out.

Regardless, I know what I saw and what I did. My 85SE has solid, not vented, rear rotors, and the calipers are held in place by two screws with 14mm heads. The rotor has the 113mm lug spacing for the sunburst wheels.

The Parts List is simply incomplete and/or incorrect.

Sorry to have to post links guys, but I have no paint program to modify the size of my pics and I'm trying to work quickly while I'm off the clock. I have to make some money sometime, you know...

Another pic of the passenger's side. My problem was with the lower mounts and the weird rubber bushings/boots. I had to cut holes in them for the mounting bolt to fit through...

I tried to post the pics here also above the links, but they probably won't show up-I've tried in the past with no success. Pics didn't show up this time either...

Thanks again for all of your time, help, and cooperation guys...

Adam - wrong caliper?

I am no expert, and could be out to lunch, but I would suggest that the rubber you cut a hole in goes on the other end of the attaching bolt without being cut, and on the front caliper.

The mounting bolt on the rears should have two of those accordian type rubbers, one on either end of the "tube" that the mounting bolt goes through. Make sense?

MSTR X-I'd kiss you if you were here in person. I must've mixed up the front and rear rubber pieces. I just noticed (and had forgotten) that the rubber pieces on the front calipers aren't quite right. Damn, I feel like an idiot now-keeping this thread alive trying to figure out why those stupid little things won't fit right and the answer's so obvious that it would've bitten me in the *** if it were a snake. You should change the "Registered user" under your screen name to either "Dr. Obvious" or "The Problem Solver"...Thanks for straightening me out man!

Oh-it doesn't go on the other end of the caliper, it goes on the other end of the car. I got the front and rear rubber pieces mixed up...
