I just purchased a 81 RX-7 and the dashboard is cracked. Will a 85 be compatible with the 81. Please info me I am not Knowledge able.

I've seen it done, but not without the whole subassembly, and even then there might be differences in mounts.

They are totally different designs, and different wiring harnesses. It can be done (I did, when I was young and foolish) - but I wouldn't try that today.

Why not just make a custom dash, and use whatever guages you want?

I did that in my 1981 Mariah Mode 1.

The dash fits but you need to modify a few mounts.

I also changed the entire elctrical system in the car to 84 spec.
Do not try to fit a 84 dash without changing the electricals! You will never figure out all the cables.

Personally I think the pre 84 dash looks better but mine was really bad and I changed the whole intrerior for a very nice 84.
