do i need a new fuel pump?

my car does some wierd stuff. it never studders in 1st or 2nd only 3rd, and it only studders in 3rd when i red line it in 1st and 2nd, so if i take it easy in 1st and 2nd then it wont studder in 3rd. i dont know why it does it or really how to fix it, oh yeah i have an 85 gs 12a if that matters

Possibly, My car had the same problem. Check your fuel filter. Its right before the pump. Its probably full of crud. After replacing that, if it still does it, then you might need a new pump. But check your filter first.

Disconnect the fuel lines from the carb and have them run into a container. Then start your car and see if gas comes out of the line at a good rate. If it dosen't, then you probably need a new pump. When i did this, my car let out about a teaspoon of fuel... i think i was runnin on fumes.

When my fuel pump went bad, the car wouldnt start at all. Pumps are not cheap. Check everything else first before investing in a new one.
