Both will work. I put a mechanical one in my car last year. It was $15 from the local autoplace. If I had the money I would go electrical, tho.

Ah, btw.. What's wrong with the stock one anyway?
You will need to find a place to tap a sensor location. I modified the stock sensor location for my mechanical one. It would be difficult with the liquid oil cooler setup..
RB makes an adapter to make it easier, but you need the air oil cooler.

the stock guage reads 110 oil presure which i know is impossbile becuase on a piston motor anything after 90psi will blow all the seals so im going to install a new gauge becuase if i were to test the oil presssure myself i would basclly be installing atempery guage to test it and then find that i have to spend more on a guage since im pretty sure its just the guage or oil pressure sender

I would get an electric one. I actually have one lol. Go electric so you dont have to run a super thin oil line into your car and to your gauge. Same goes with water temp. If you have that stuff going through your firewall and it breaks, you are screwed. Not meaning that you will run out of oil, but you will have to replace carpet, and possibly some other stuff. More hassle if you ask me also.

just replace your oil pressure sending unit. much easier. there is basically nothing to go wrong with the stock oil pressure gauge.

I have always used mechanical guages with my vehicles. I have never had one break, or leak in the people space. Just make sure you grommet the firewall penetration.
I am not sure where the sensor is on a 12A block, but it may need to be rethreaded for the oil line fitting.
Mechanical are good, because they respond really fast, and are not dependant on the electrical system. Electrical are good, because you are not moving oil out of the block.
Just personal choice.

As said, its a personal choice, but it sounds to me like you need a new sender unit. If youre willing to spend the $75 for the Automemter, spend the $60 for the sending unit new, or get one used. If you REALLY want the gauge, get whichever one you want, and just go on down to the hardware store and get yourself some fittings and make a "T" for the stock sender unit location. Put one end of the T in the block, then one sender in each end thats left, voila. The downside is you might have a hard time finding something that would fit the block which is threaded in METRIC. You can however, put an NPT fitting in there because theyre REALLY close, but just make sure its tight and wont leak. Dont strip it either, lol. Teflon tape can/might ruin the ground between the block and the stock sender though, so make sure it can still ground. You can test this with a volt meter set on continuity, or an Ohm meter. Good luck .

thats the autometer 2 - 5/8 electric oil pressure gague.

i installed it in place of the factory one.

its 99% of the time a faulty sending unit. replace that and your stock gauge will be working like brand new.
