Do any of ya'll have a computer in the garage?

Dude I must run inside every ten minutes while I'm working on the Mound, either to look at "before" pix to see where things go, or to browse the forum for an answer....If I had an extra computer I'd for sure put it in the garage.

Anyone?

Right on.

I have the extra computer, but no room in the garage, and I'm to lazy to run network wire to the garage. And its to far to do wireless. But I wish I had one in the garage. :P

I have no garage

but I do have a car port with a huge white tarp stapled all the way down the outside side, and then on the back wall there's a fence and a huge shrub, so effectively I have a dirt floored garage with no door...

HOWEVER, I do have a computer in the basement, right next to the door, and the basement door leads right out into the carport, so help is close at hand

I'm thinking of building some cabinets outside in the carport, and putting the computer inside one...

Ya, I have a computer in the garage. I am typing on it at this very moment, as I even have a cat5 pull out here. Have cable modem? Check! Have Router? Check! Have 4 computers currently running on the network, all with broadband internet access? Check! I gotta get a life.....

Specs on the garage machine for the bored insomniacs like myself... P4 1.3GHz w/256 MB of RAM, 60GB of HD, NVidia TNT2 Pro 32MB card, cdrw, cd, and a partridge in a pear tree. Gonna go try to sleep now...

hehehe... my basement computer is the dream machine of the early 90's

P1 (HEY! it's a 1st gen pentium! to match my 1st gen RX-7!!), 166mhz, 64 megs of ram, 2gig HD, 1mb POS video card, 22x cd rom, keayboard, and mouse!

now, the computer UPSTAIRS... the one I'm on currently... THAT's a different story

P4 2.2ghz, 512mb DDR ram , 100gig total HD space (one 40gig with the OS on it, and a 60gig for my video editing), ATI Radeon 8500LE 128DDR, 5 speaker surround system, webcam, Pinnacle Video capture card (64mb DDR), 56x CD rom, 32x CD-RW, etc, etc, etc

both have ADSL (faster than cable around here, as cable is all shared, and they haven't upgraded since 2 years ago...

I have no garage But if I did, you can bet there'd be a puter out there! I have the DSL interenet w/4 port router and an 8 port hub setup with 3 PC's, a Compaq laptop, a MAC Laptop and a MAC G4 computer in my house. There are a couple other "beater machines" around here too that may or may not be assembled at any point in time, just because I work for a computer company and have parts to build several old machines lying around, so I do for the hell of it occasionally.

I have an older iBook that I just tossed a wireless card into. Out working on the card? No problem - aside from covering the keyboard, I can just browse away

Im fortunate enough to have a 24*30 garage and a computer in there along with satlelite TV WOOOHOOO
Ya I spend way 2much time out there. Im hoping 2put in a hoist this summer but I think my summer budget is gone since buying my 13BRE Cosmo motor and Turbonetics turbo. Plus I still need to buy the Haltech. Anyone selling one for $700.00CAN funds, I would be very thankful.

Same Here. 4 Full Blown PC's in the home office. A company Laptop, and my own personal Laptop on the DSL routers. Wireless too. Not to mention the Verizon wireless Internet card, for when I am out - 256K wherever I go, even in traffic.

I can't lie. Sometimes I surf the forum *while* sitting in the 7...

Sorry, a first gen pentium would be a 60MHz or 66MHz.

Wireless is the way to go. The range on most 802.11b units is normally good enough unless you live on a farm where your garage might be really far away.

The worst part is not being able to touch anything cause yer so dirty.

a 486 or early Pentium is perfect for the jobs I agree.

I have 9 or 10 computers and 9 monitors All PCs from various years. One is in the garage, but it's for music only at the moment. I might get around to running cat5 cable in there some day. It would be nice to see pics and stuff out there. Oh, I also have a little FX Wave that can broadcast audio to a nearby FM reciever. A Walkman at 2AM keeps the neighbors from complaining.

Since we're on the subject, you guys with wireless, I'd love some advise on just what to get. Currently I've got 2 computers hooked to a 3rd computer thru a hub. Don't want to drill more holes in the floor for cables!

I have a computer cobbled together from numerous older units that will go in my garage once it's built... Sometime in Mid June...

802.11g (Airport Extreme) is 54mbps of good lovin.

The 802.11 standard comes from the same creative minds that brought IEEE 1394 to the market. I'll just say that they rock without starting a flamewar by naming them

Hey man... If I had the money to upgrade my dektop to a G4, I'd do it... I just picked up a white iBook, G3 600 MHz, 256 MB Ram, 12 Gig drive, CD-RW/DVD drive, dual USB and Firewire... I gotta resell it though, as I don't run any other Mac stuff... I like their presentation software.. I'd like to see someone do some of that **** in Powerpoint...

OS-X is the shiznit.

Anywhozer, back on topic.. I use my Dell laptop on 802.11b and a beat to hell external keyboard to keep grease off the laptop... Optical mice are $12, so one goes on the USB port and if it gets trashed, who cares... When I get a real house with a good garage, I'll put a desktop in there, after the lift and air compressor of course.

Four pc's upstairs for lan get togethers,
soon to be two pc's cause I could use the extra cash.

also have laptop on wireless 10/00 cable network.

none of them really see the garage.

I havent needed to see where anything goes yet.
I have a pretty good memory of the vacuum hose diagrams and I am in college working towards a masters in Electrical Engineering. so electrics come naturally.

99% of the time im in the 1st gen section is to answer q's.

2nd gen section is a diferent story.
