I just realized that my 85 doesn't have a VIN plate on the firewall and it looks like it should be there. There is a VIN stamped on the firewall though. Just curious, thanks in advance-Matt

 

ya they are stamped in there, they don't have a plate

Hmmm...I couldn't remember seeing one on my '79 so I went out and looked. Sure enough there's a plate on the passenger's side and it's stamped on the driver's side.

When I changes my interior from brown to black ( new dash top ), we carefully drilled out the VIN rivets and re-attached the plate on the new dash. I hope that's not some federal law like taking the tags off bedding or something.

 

mine has both as well...I would think it kind of odd to only stamp the engine bay and not put some sort of external tag or something.
