Dizzy upgrade question

I'm upgrading my dizzy and I think I have everything ready to go. I have a second gen coil ready to get hooked up and already modded without the ignitor. My question is though for my trailing, is there any way I can use my stock 79 coil or do I HAVE to get another coil due to it will burn up because of voltage I gues? Thanks and the second gen coil is such a easy and great upgrade!

Just a question, are you trying to use the '79 points style distributor, or do you already have a later (electronic ignition) dizzy? Because, if you are trying to use the '79, I think you will have to upgrade to an electronic dizzy first. The 2nd gen coils aren't made for points style ignition.

Once you are converted to electronic ignition, the trailling will stay connected the same (through the cap). You can move the trailing over to the leading part of the cap, once you have the 2nd gen direct fire hooked up. This takes advantage of the carbon button in the center of the cap (basically one less gap to jump).

Yes, I do have a electronic dizzy and I've read that I have to change the trailing coil to a later model or aftermarket, and I've seen some other place I can use stock 79 trailing... This is the only hook I've come into.

Yes, you need to get a later model or aftermarket coil. They should be easy to find in a wrecking yard locally. I have a few spares that you could have for the price of shipping, but I don't know if it would be worth it. You could probably get them locally for less. Maybe you can find someone that lives closer on the forum to get one from.
