dizzy problems

The car was running and quit. Towed it home. Checked the timing and it was off on the leading mark tried to get it on and I can't get it back in the center of the adjustment slot and on the leading mark on the pully.Moving the dizzy one tooth throws it off to the extreme of the slot. I have used the dot on the bottom of the dizzy and the rotor appears to line up and hit it with the timing light only to have way off. Whats going on I'm about to wear it out removing the dizzy so many times and the trailing timings next. Any tricks?

If your car was running fine before it suddenly died, the I doubt that the dizzy is involved. When you checked the timing on the leading, did you use the lower front plug?

Yea I had the timing light on the lead plug wire. Would the torrington bearing and spacer keep the distributator from being able to seat in the proper position?
