DIY leather repair kit

I left my car outside last night and the window open a crack, of course it rains and my driver side seat is starting to get pretty torn up.

I've seen those commercials for do it yourself leather repair; they come with some goop and a bunch of different colors to match up to your leather. Is this kind of thing worth a try? Who has had good experiences with a certain kind?

I would imagine that anything short of reupholstering the seat will not yield very positive results. Of course, I'd love to be proved wrong.
