Distributer Question

My '84 GSL-SE is running poorly so I decided to check distributor. When I checked the air gap between then signal rotor and the pick-up coils it is right at the 0.5mm minimum. The shaft has a fair amount of vertical movement, and a tiny bit of side-to-side movement that is sufficient to close the gap below the minimum on one of the pick-ups.

Question: is this a problem, and if so, what is the best solution?

"Running poorly" isn't descriptive enough for us to help you. How many miles are on it? When is it running poorly? What have you done recently? What are you comparing it to? What are you trying to improve?
