Dist. Rotor Position at TDC?

Hey would anyone happen to have a picture of the distributor Rotor position when the engine is at top dead center? I will try and take a picture of my rotors position right now, I think the problems ive been having with my car may be mostly timing related. Before we couldn't get it to run, bumped the distributor a tooth and after a while it fired up but the exhaust got VERY hot and glowed orange. So I persume the timing is too retarded. The reason my timing is out of wack is because this is a different engine in my car and we weren't careful with the front pulley position...

Anyways I put the front pulley on by turning the engine over by hand until the front rotor was lined up with the plug holes. I then put the pulley on so that the leading mark on the pulley lined up with the timing indicator pin. I don't really know if this is a good method of putting the front pulley on but from what I have heard in other threads this method should work.

Thanks

#1 rotor @ TDC, the arrow on the rotor button will be at or near L1 on the cap.

If you can take the 19mm front pulley bolt off and see where the key way is it will make things alot easier on you. If you are looking at the key way from the front of the car it should be at the 9 o'clock position and the timing marks are at the 12 o'clock position. When you do remove it make sure you wedge up something like a piece of wood or flatbar against the flywheel so the thrust washer doesn't slip and crush the bearings and don't remove the pulley hub just look at the position of the key way and then put the 19mm bolt back on and then move the pulley by loosing the 4 10mm bolts and your done. It's pretty easy but you have to be careful. Good luck.

ya, I have been kind of afriad of removing that bolt because I have heard of the damage you can cause by wrecking the bearings...

dotn be afraid. just remove the main 19mm and the 4 10mm botls, slightly tap the pulley with a mallet and it should separate from the hub.
