You need to check the flange where the drive shaft mates to the rear end. The 83 could be a big flange or a small flange. Your drive shaft will work as far as length but it will have the big flange on it.

Depending what your doing with the car please realise that when you change rear axles housings that the 85 has large rear axles & the 83 has small rear axles.

Marv, put the car up on four jack stands. Use a normal floor jack (or a couple strong buddys) to remove the old & lift the new. The normal floor jack neeeds to raise high enough to get the job done.

I'm not a big fan of the rubberized coating, tried it on my fuel tank, and it never set up. I prefer using the Duplicolor truck bed liner.

According to my Victoria British catalog, all 81-85 GSLs are the same. They're available new from VB but are a little pricey. Approx $90 plus shipping for the pair.

Also the -SE cables work if you find those first, or at least I used GSL cables on my -SE swap. A good thing is to go ahead and get you a Victoria British catalog and you can get a rough idea of what's interchangable.
