Differential Issue? Non GSL-SE 85

I have an 85 non GSL-SE that i have been working on for a year, Finally just got it all running, replaced the brakes, drove it around the block a couple times to make sure it would drive and then tried to take a 15 mile trip to work when it felt like one of the back tires blew out. However the tires are still in tact, so i think something let go in the rear end.

Is there anywhere that sells parts to just fix what is there? or am i going to be forced into spending another grand on a gsl-se converstion. (if i can find it)

i need a cheap but good repair. any suggestions?

You sure it wasn't a backfire?

Check all the rearend links and make sure they are connected properly. I've had a broken watts link before and it would it would slam into the car pretty loud when backing up.

If your having driveline noise you'll need to pull the axles out and check the splined ends for damage. If those are ok remove the diff and check for damaged gears.

If you're just looking to get back on the road just hit up a salvage yard for replacement parts.

yes im sure it wasnt a backfire... it caused my car to swerve into the other lane, and was pulling on the car as i pulled over... seriously feels like a flat tire and how it would "wobble" ill tear it apart when i can get it back to the house.

But, there isnt a junk yard anywhere around me that has ANY Rx-7's ive looked, called, asked... nobody in my area has these cars.. ive seen 2... mine, and another one that never gets driven.

I think you need to give us more details, its hard to diagnose "felt like one of the back tires blew out".

I would suspect wheel bearings first and check to see if one of the wheels is now
sticking out further than the other. Typical bearing failure can have the whole wheel and axle
assembly work its way out and fall off. Not pleasant.

Also make sure your wheels lugs are tight. A loose wheel can cause all kinds of noise before
it actually falls off. Since you just finished working on it, they may not have been torqued
yet.

Links are another possible issue. They can break or come loose but I've rarely heard of this.

im hoping its just a wheel bearing of some sort.. that would be awesome... unfortunatly i dont know anything more about the problem. the car is still sitting on the side of the road, but ill go get it and tear it apart tonight. just wanted to have my mind set on what to look for.
