difference between mazdatrix race/DOT stainless steel brake hoses?

Other than the obvious DOT label, what is the difference between the DOT approved stainless steel brake hoses and the racing lines at mazdatrix.com? I'm currently looking at the 81-83 gsl variety. Has anyone here tried both?

Isn't it nice that if a product won't pass emmisions regs or required certification it's called 'race'. I have the 'race' version on the widebody, made by Russell, who make many dot ones also. Afaik, the difference is the certification. Odd thing is, if the brake lines won't hold up on a race car, I wouldn't be using them on the street. I'm assuming they aren't certified because certification costs money.

I agree as far as I know there is no difference in the two. Ones DOT the other is not, that's the only thing, could always be wrong.

There is a difference. DOT certified hoses must have swaged ends, not reuseable style ends. The race crowd does have a need to replace hoses on occasion, so rebuildable suits their needs as it saves a bit of $. If you had a failure on a streetcar using race hoses I bet your insurance co wouldnt be very happy about it.

Thank you! I was thinking that the race version might have less give and was going to get it on that assumption. I'll be going for the DOT version now.

The race is a little cheaper cost wise. I just installed (several weeks ago) the race lines on my car. Seemed very stout.

I'd be surprised if the insurance company noted the difference. But then again, nearly everything the insurance companies do surprise me. (Did those sentences make any sense?) Anyway. Just think 'Katrina' Bunch of class actions going on there.

No I have both and the teflon lined hose in both is equally stiff. Its a matter of conforming to DOT rules that makes them different.
