Difference in '85 GSL-SE and SE???

Or are they the same... ? I do not know much about the difference in models so could someone PLEASE enlighten me on this. I have someone selling an '85 SE RX-7 and I would like to know what an SE have over an GSL-SE or like I said before, are they the same? Here is the description:

Ad Type FOR SALE
Year 1985
Price $1400
Ad Text 1985 Mazda RX7 SE 13B 4 Port Motor, Side Draft Mikuni Carb, 225 Horsepower, Cold A/C, Looks & Runs Great!

BTW: When and if I do go check this car out, what should I look for incase its a lemon? What questions should I ask? My dad is a mechanic at Nissan (12+ years experience, he knows his stuff) but just incase you rotary heads might have some questions he would forget. Thank you so much and I would like the answer ASAP before this Sunday (12/31/02)

Theyre one in the same, just "SE" is shorter than typing "GSL-SE". Just typing SE is also a common way to abbriviate a GSL-SE on this forum too. Unless, in the ad its supposed to be an LE, which wasnt available that year anyway .

Sounds like a resonable price, however it has been modified (no long stock). Glass would have been an option I believe.

If it's what he says in the add, buy it. That is a nice set up. With that 4 port motor already in there a turbo set up would be pretty easy.

Good luck,
Mike

Sounds good. I thought the 85 GSL-SE FI was the only 13b that year.

If you're not interested, let me know. I'm looking for that kind of car to add to my 2 12as.

Vubonics locale is SoCal, so I assumed it was smogged in CA. If not, I gotta figure THAT out. But I suppose if you have good cats and re-tune for smog control every 2 years it'd be OK. Unless, of course, the Smog Guys complain about the non-standard engine.

But I'd like to get a nice 13B and give one of my 12As to my daughter in Santa Barbara (the 85GSL looks good, runs sweet but a little detuned so she won't get in trouble, is VERY smooth on the road-I have no idea why it is so smooth, maybe it's heavy). I'm on SF peninsula, so the transport is no prob.

Redwood City, down 280 near woodside. I've got my original 83GS with 115k, and an 85GSL I picked up this summer with 49k.

I used to lived in Redwood City. In fact, I graduated from Woodside High School in 1980. I just bought a 85 gslse 2 months ago. Everything on the car was stock and only has 65000 miles. We should meet sometime. Do you belong to the Bayarea Rx7 Club? I believe the person that started the club lives in Redwood City.

Hey guys, if you want to contact each other, please use PMs and do not flood this thread. As for the car, I think the owner is selling it because it cannot pass smog in CA. I will find out tommorow...Im hoping it will pass smog, if so, Im buying it!

If it stopped passing smog well after the engine went in, then maybe it's shot cats. So what's that, $800?

If you want Mazda cats, you're talking thousands. Aftermarket cat setups starting from the engine to where the muffler goes run around $500 and up depending on who you go with.
