It dies when I smash the gas

Ok, I just bought this FB. Completley stock but it sounds ported, plus, the housing are painted red so maybe the engine has been taken out before. The guy put a new driveshaft and u-joints. It doesnt idle smooth at 800 but it doesnt go under 700. Interior is imaculate, its got a body kit, and 225/50/15 enkie mesh whees. Only one problem. If you play with the gas the car runs normal but if it's idleing and you smash the gas it just dies, like if it runs out of gas or something. Can anyone help me?, could it be the gas filter??, could it be igniton??

you could be flooding it, what happens when you give it gas in a smooth motion but quickly?

nothing. rpm's go up nice and smooth. Only when you smash it hard at idle is when it dies.

In a piston engine, that would the fuel filter, have you changed it on yours?

Well bud sounds like you got a good deal and find, save your self ALOT of trouble, and eaither rebuild the carb yourself or find someone that will do it cheap. Its not hard at all to do your self just make sure you know where EVERYTHING goes and you'll be smooth. The other part is getting everything clean, get a gallon can of Gunk carb and parts cleaner from Advanced its $10 and best thing to use. Get about 5 cans of carb cleaner, gloves and a small wire brush. Do it outside or really well venalated area. I'd suggest to goto NAPA and get a rebuild kit, it comes with a blowup view of everything, and if it doesnt, take it back. If you feel that its too much work/time or what not, a pro will do it easily and it'll be done. It took me a very long time with 2 different carbs of messing around, and I ended up re-rebuilding my 79 carb, but better. hope i helped, good luck

That's not flooding. If you open the throttle too fast with mechanical secondaries it will run lean and stumble because the air's not moving fast enough through the secondaries to create a vacuum signal and draw fuel from the float bowl.

Do carbed ones have TPS's? My car died when the pedal was slammed, and itwas caused by a maladjusted tps

TPS = Throttle Position Sensor, only needed to tell the FUEL INJECTION computer what amount of fuel to give the engine to run properly for the amount of air you're introducing into the throttle body
Good try though!

A mal-adjusted accelerator pump might be the problem. It isn't delivering enough fuel at the right time. PM sterling or rx7carl for more info. They are the carb gods around here.

Sorry, double post.

I never knew they made GAS filters. Doesn't gas normally come out your *** in the form of a cloud of stench. They can be accompanied by either a silent sound or a loud rip. J/K.

Sorry, I'm in a good mood tonight. Went to a movie with the GF. My first GF to be exact and the first movie with her.

BTW, the proper terminology is fuel filter. I don't normally see gas filter posted.

I dunno know about "carb gods", but it is about the only thing I do know anything about on the engine!

I'd bet a Grant it's the AP.
Look in the FAQ section for links to some write-ups I've done.

im with them. and with the other mods i wouldnt be surprised to find a mech secondary mod on the carb as well. if they didnt modify the accelerator pump to have a larger volume/throw that would absolutely account for the engine stalling when you floor it from low rpms.

the job of the pump is to pour extra gas in when you whip open the throttle because the venturis wont be able to handle that big of a reduction in intake velocity.

usually this occurs from lower rpms, but not idle, since the pump will spray in the normal amount of gas. however, i have found that if your idle is set high, the acc pump wont make any difference. see if you can lower your idle to normal and see if it works a little better. if not i say check the accellerator pump.
