Dies at low RPM

Hello,

I recently inherited an 83 rx-7, and today It decided it was going to die at low rpms (<1000) I managed to get it home by holding the choke, but I really want to get it fixed. It doesnt have much power while driving, and sounds like it may be backfiring.

I have an Autox this sunday, so I really need to get this fixed in a hurry.

Sounds like the FB is overdue for a carb rebuild but I would also replace the fuel filter too.

Carb was rebuilt just recently.

There is also some oil that looks like it has sprayed into the air filter chamber

I would also check for a vacuum leak. Well I would still check for the simple things like plugs, wires, cap, and rotor and do not forget the fuel filter. My car was is the same condition as yours but when i performed a carb rebuild it fixed my engine shutoff at low rpm's.

Could be a chip out of an apex seal corner piece.

Pressure gauge checking each rotor, one worked fine, the other had no pressure.
