Did my shutter valve kick the bucket?
Hi guys,
Well, some strange things have started to go funny with my '82. The idle dips to under 500 rpm when you push the clutch in to stop at a light, but comes bakc up and fluctuates around 600-900 rpm. It's also pretty rough. The car doesn't really seem down on power and it starts easily, hot or cold, so I'm ruling out a popped apex seal. Also, when it's trying to idle, I hear a moaning, sounds kinda like "hooooooo" but kinda low pitched (nice impression, huh?) Anyways, I've searched and it seems like my shutter valve is what's causing this. Anybody got a definitive answer on how to disable that annoying little thing?

To test if it's the shutter valve, get yourself a small pair of visegrips and clamp the large hose going to the shutter valve. Make sure the visegrips are secure and give the car a test spin. If your problems go away, find a more perminent solution for blocking the hose. Some have just jammed a AA battery in the hose and left it. I found rubber caps and just capped both ends.
