Dellorto DHLA setups

For a DHLA side-draft setup, is a 48mm pair an absolute necessity? E-bay has a number of 40's and one or two 45's up at any given time. Can a 45 mm keep up with a stock ported 12A or is there more to consider? I'd love to pick up a good side-draft setup but a DHLA 48 would be expensive as hell, assuming I'll even find one.

45 is a good size for a stock port 12a. I don't know much about dell's, but unless it is specifically made for a rotary, then it will probably need some mods done to it to make it work right.

The going rate for Racing Beat 48 DHLA kits (including carb, intake manifolds, air filter, heat shield, OMP lines and rod, linkage) is $300 US. This is what I paid for mine in great condition, and others I know.

You can't use just any 45mm Dell, it won't work right with the rotary. RB made specific and difficult to replicate adjustments - like drilling specific holes in the emulsion tubes, a special accel pump gasket, etc... not to mention the proper jetting, choke size, etc, that comes with the carb, and various pretty picky adjustment specs that have all been determined by RB and people in the rotary community using the Dell's.

It is a *far* greater task to attempt to fit a non-rotary carb to the RX-7 than to just find an RB DHLA kit.
