Dead spot off idle

My car has a slight dead spot or actually more of a hesitation at low RPMs especially when cruising on the highway at like 2k and then slowly tipping into the throttle it has a slight hiccup and then accelerates like normal. Any tips on tuning that out? Otherwise she runs great.

with the engine off, take the air cleaner off and look down the carb and work the throttle slowly to see if the accelerator pump is working properly. it may need adjusting.

+1 on the Accelerator pump on the carb. Basically it works like a kid's squirt gun, but instead of water, it squirts a bit of gas into the carb as you open up the throttle to make up for the fact that the carb suddenly has a ton of air that it can't get fuel into right away.

If your accelerator pump is working properly you should be able to look down the carb's primaries (the smaller barrels) and work the linkage with your hand and see a small stream of fuel come out as you do. If you don't get any fuel at all when you work the linkage back and forth then your accelerator pump is gummed up. Rebuild is the best way to deal with it, but running a few tanks with carb cleaner might jar it loose. If you're getting some but it's happening really late or it's very little then it could either need adjustment or just be gunked up.
