DAY 3 Engine bay Pics

Here are some more current engine bay pics since I caught so much crap for the last ones.

The radiator has been removed and awaiting the custom mounting brackets I have being fabbed up.

The power steering pump line still needs to be completely replaced.

I still need to replace the fusable links with fuses or breaker.

Waiting on parts for direct fire system.

Need to re-mount horns.

Need to clean up the wiring mess near the battery location.

Need to install electric fan and 2nd gen power steering pump.

And thats pretty much it.

Check em out

Looking good man. HEY maybe you can help me out. On the dirver side of the entgine bay, very front, right behind the headlight pod, there is a black relay thing w/ wires connecting into the harness.

What does that do? Cause mines been broken for quite some time now.

Why are you staying with power steering? I like the red air cleaner...that's real out-of-the-box thinking there. Ya oughtte trim back that air horn, though, it's killing more airflow than you realize.

Nice pics.

I was told its better to run it to help the airbox suck colder air from further foward in the engine bay.

Ah well I guess I could cut it down a bit.

I wanted to keep the stock box on there since I dont think there is too much to be gained by replacing it, but the blue was killing the looks of the engine bay, so red it was.

My g/f says the box is uber tacky but thats kinda the point, it has to stand out just as much as the baby blue box it replaced right.

Geoff: That is the oscillator that you are talking about. It is use to sound the buzzer when your coolant level is low.

V8kilr: That engine bay is looking good. I like the red air cleaner as well.

What are you going to do about the brown........oh thats the car............like the engine tho.

I was thinking the same about the airhorn. Mabe go with Home Depot special tubing for cold air.

So you removed the flat black off the engine? If so, then GOOD.

No offense but I dont want it to look ghetto, I want it to look nice, so no dryer hose on my airbox, I dont care how many (1hp) it adds.
To me thats rice when u'll do anything for 1hp or 2hp no matter what it looks like.

This is a street car, no need to squeeze every last drop out of it.

Thanks for the suggestion though and I am glad about all the positive feedback on the red box.

Nah the flat black was to give the gloss blac something to stick to.

I am not worried about temps, that 2nd gen rad with the electric fan I am adding will take care of that.

I'd be willing to be my engine with the paint will still run cooler then your average rotary just from the radiator and fan alone, oh I also have an oil/air cooler.

I kinda prefer rotor housings to be non-painted silver.

Car looks nice, but I notice that Tornado Silver FB sitting next to it? Mind giving me a bumper cover and passenger fender?

That is actually quite the opposite of rice IMO, performance at the sake of looks.

The red air cleaner looks pretty badass!

Ok I guess your right, so instead of rice I'll call it redneck.

People with the plexiglass homemade windsheilds, stripped interior in a 4 door, putting on escort rims because their lighter, etc.... etc....

But if you Autocross you have a reason to do all this, still doesnt make it right, but you have a reason and chances are the car is not your daily driver.

This car wont be autoxing anytime soon and will get plenty of driving so I am just not concerned with it I guess.

I would say it mostly about looks but performance does count as well, I just want the car to look modified in a from the factory type of way.

would like to know what made u cut the front to put in a 2nd gen radiator, and why not go with a aluminum. what did u cut and did it affect the stress of the frame by cutting all that.

I didnt cut much, theres 2 side panels that just unbolt, and then the piece that goes across the top.
Just some thin metal, when you cut it your horns will come with it so I have to remount those.

The 2nd gen rad im pretty sure is aluminum, its damn light compaired to the stocker even after the fact its about 1.3 times the size of it.

It cools a whole hell of alot better and looks better IMO.

Plus theres not all that corrosion that you usally find on 80% of 1st gen rads.

Check one out next time you get the chance and pick it up, you might be amazed at how light they are.

lol....this from the guy that "gutted" a car to get into the 14's with his rexxie...that was you, wasn't it, those many years ago? Had everyone hacked saying you couldn't do those times with your engine until you revealed what you had done to the rest of the car...
