Unhappy Dash Light help!

Ok I finaly got everything working on my 83' LE. Except the dash lights! When I turn on my headlights they work but the dash and none of the heater and radio controls light up? So what I need to know is what color the wires for the dash lights are. I just rewired All the turn signal and wiper and headlight stuff, and replaced that little unit behind the steering wheel. I can't figure out these f#*$&@$ lights! HELP!

I believe you're looking for a green wire with a yellow stripe. That feeds the idiot lights in the dash and thus the dash itself.

I retract my previous statement. The idiots are run off the other wire. The illumination feed is a red wire with a green stripe...

Yeah, should be red with a green stripe. Are your tailights (not brake lights) and headlight motors working as well? I have a problem on the same circuit currently and those aren't working, but I know mine is a short. If that stuff is all working you have a break in the circuit somewhere. Just figure out what is still working just before what stops and your break is between those 2 points. If nothing is working, check the fuse, and if that is blown, then all fun happens. Try a new one and see if that holds, if not, you probably have a short, which is just so much fun to track down.

Hopefully that's some help. I have an '84, so I'm not too sure if the circuits are the same. I'd guess they are similar.

It probably isn't something this simple but is there a dimmer for the interior dash lights in 83? Maybe try turning that. I had the same problem in my '85 recently after taking the dash apart and putting it back in. My outside lights came on but none inside, turns out I musta killed my dimmer switch during the removal / installation of the dash. oh well.

Yes there is a dimmer **** I tried turning that didn't help. I also checked the wiring on the dimmer no help. I have to go tomrrow and check the other wiring. I hate little things like this lol. And whats worse is they worked yesterday when the wiring was all taken apart. But now that it's all properly hooked up they break always somthing lol. Oh well.
