Exclamation Danger Will Robinson! Hazardous Chemicals!

So, okay. Everyone knows not to use Synthetic oil, and the reason behind that reccomendation, but a question posted in the coolant system flushing thread intrigued me.

What coolant flushing chemicals are safe to use in our cars?

Take it a step further.

What chemicals and fluids are safe to use in our cars, period?

I'd assume any flushing chemical safe for aluminium engines and brass radiators would be good. I don't see what's so different about our cooling system than a piston engine. Same with antifreeze types.

What about Gas-ahol or any alcohol based fuels? Neither engine, piston or rotary benefits from carbon deposits, so I'd assume neither of these would be made to put out any excess. Ditto on fuel additives, except for the lead substitutes.

Gearbox oils shouldn't be too different...

So, what fluids are reccomended and which aren't? And equally as important, Why? Any particular brand name you guys trust?

These two groups mainly:
Coolant / Coolant system cleaners / Coolant system additives; Fuels / Fuel additives

Engine oils I know already, but for the benefit of the RX newbies, I'll answer if you ask. (I'm naturally longwinded and tend to babble... (see) Theres a mechanical explantaiton that takes a bit of time to type.) Although, I'm hearing Castrol being less desirable and Halvoline being more so from users of this and the MazSpeed board.

And gear oils, I'm assuming synthetic because of it's more desirable properties. Royal Purple and RedLine are the most trusted brands I've see here. Any others?

Racing Beat, Mazdatrix, and Mazda owners manual differ in their views toward synthetic engine oil. They do agree that a new engine should be broken in with regular organic oil though.

Racing Beat suggests, after break in, that synthetic is better as it has superior buring characteristics in the combustion chamber.

Mazdatrix is more of a proponent of the tried and true organic oils and question the buring characteristics of synthetics, organic has never given them a problem, so why spend the extra $ on synthetic.

Draw your own conclusions. My conclusion, buy the blended stuff and always run 10/30.

I wll run synthetic when I build my RX-2's new engine. I won't have an OMP on it, so I should be fine.

For now its GTX 20/50 as almost everyone else uses.
