Dang nabbit! (car buying woes)

I'm having a heck of a time finding a GSL-SE. Should I just *settle* and get a 12a powered car?

Is there that much of a difference?

Are all GSL's 13B powered? I just picked up an 84, assumed it was a 12A but didn't even look close.

The only 1st gen with a 13B from the factory is the GSL-SE with a 13B EFI engine.

ALL other 1st gens (including GSL's) came with a 12A with a Nikki carb.

It's not so much that the non-SE models are less good. Just different.

My '85 GSL-SE weighs a whole pile more that my g/f's '85 S (base model).

The SE makes 135fwhp.
Non-SE's make 101fwhp.

The SE's have bigger brakes and discs on all 4 corners.
Non-SE's have smaller front discs and read drums.

Plus, as I recall, different gearing.

As for what you should do...

I love -SE's and if I were you, I'd be willing to wait for the car I want.

However, there are many, many folks here on the forum who would swear by non-SE's.

GSl = 12a, rear disc, lsd, loads of options
GSL-SE = 13b, rear disc, lsd, loads of options

the only big difference is the FI 13b in the -SE.

they have different bolt patters, too.

i have a GSL 12a. those cars can definitely get up and go. never driven an -SE myself. only 13b i've driven was a 87 GXL..

i think i'll eventually drop a 2nd gen 13b in to replace the 12a 'cause i prefer the fuel injection...
