Damn Thats One Sexy Car!
cost of avg 3rd gen = 10x the cost of the average 1st gen.
i wouldnt be surprised if your'e right though. the FB is not a big car, nor is it a flashy car. nor is it "cute". all those things are what your average female looks for in a car anyways.

I think girls.. I mean women are attracted by loud exhausts more than we realise. Seriously. They may perceive it like a mating call- with the loudest male getting the babes.
Red C4 Corvette with the Targa off. When that things off it gets more attraction than a convertable. And looks way better. Women love it, especially when your goin sideways around corners without squeeling the tires.

no, they were unsure of your sexual persuasion in the miata.

..and about the Miata- Why the 'chick car' status? Those things handle like crazy, and are easily modded? If Mazda made a lighter coupe version with a tab more headroom and a rotary engine, that is what I would drive (heck, I'd buy it new). And basic psychology tells us that it is the men who subconsciencely question the strength of their masculinity that buy the more flashy attention getting vehicles; like jacked up 4x4s, SUVs and sports cars. They are trying to bolster their public image with their vehicle, hoping to increase their 'manliness'. Real men can drive a pink Miata and still get babes.- - - - --wait, . . .pink . .. miata... babes..,
... never mind.

I personally think that a nice clean 1st gen looks damn fine, and nicely modded 1st gens look even finer.
I really like the look of xxxHondaGuyxxx's car...

I like them 'classic' style. When people put 18" wheels and modern over-the top body kits with flip/flop paint schemes, they look pretentious- like the owner is saying 'I wish my car was a newer one'. Not that the new stuff is bad, just that I prefer a restored original over a heavily modded show car.
I agree that a manly man such as myself can bag the babes regardless of vehicle.
Got plenty driving my Ford Fiesta, plenty driving my 84 Volkswagen Vanagon, plenty in my 85 DIESEL Isuzu Imark, and plenty more in my 85 GSL. Of course, I landed my wife in the Imark and graduated her to the 7
Now I own a 95 Ford Windstar (dude, if I were the type, I could SOOOOO pick up the ladies in that), the same 85 GSL, 87 Honda Civic (beater from hell) and an 82 Jeep CJ-5.
It's not the car - it's the man inside the car. If I were in the aforementioned pink miata, sure I'd have to overcome the initial perception of "Damn, shame he's gay", but I certainly could pick them up. Of course, then I'd have to explain to my wife that the women were merely presents for her...

I'd expect it from the Mustang forum, but here?
If the Miata's a woman's car, than so is the first gen. They weigh almost the same, Have the same stock HP (Miata NA 101-140, rx7 FB 100-135), the Miata engine is BIGGER, (Though they would still be a better car if rotary powered) suspension/handling on a miata is much better, better rear (Independant Torsen on the miata) almost the same trans internals, etc.
The only difference is one has a hatch and one is a vert.
As a matter of fact, the main influence Mazda engineers used when designing the miata WAS the first gen.

Its not the car exactly that I think has given the miata the "oh, look at me I'm gay!!", or "This is a girls car" mentality, its a large portion people that own and drive them. All in all they're good cars, obviously inspired by our 1 gens. Of course the lines on a first gen are a bit more boxy/masculine, than the miata. But If that were the only qualifier for the
status, the third gen would be right up there too.
