Ok, if any of you guys have read my unique posts, I had an accident of my bumper falling off, and crushing the middle of it. I salvaged the corners and blinkers and riveted them on to the body. Of course i hack sawed off the damaged mid section first. Now i have the Poly Urethane bumper sides w/o the metal underneath. There is some type of brush guard underneath and behind the bumper in which i removed, painted silver, and mounted in front, in between the bumper-ettes. I think it looks tight and it makes my enigne run almost always at 1/4 temp. Wow.
I think it looks, well, as long as you like it! You did want an opinion right? I personnally don't like it.
If you removed the metal beam that's inside the front bumper, you could have quite a surprise in your next accident though.
Seriously, your car doesn't have any other damage except for the bumper, so just get a new one and paint it.

heheh...
i had the big metal bumper, as SA's do... and I dropped the front and rear, put the plastic bumper on. Lord help me if some one so much as kisses my bumpers, let alone hit anything

Popular mod on older GTI's and Golfs is to remove the US spec bumpers and go for the slimmer/lighter euro bumpers.
I guess the j-spec bumpers for us are the same or do we have a heavier version of the japanese front bumper?

I think it has potential, needs a little tweeking thought.
I agree with brianw, it has potential. However there is also a lot of weight behind the comments about there being a reason for a bumper.
Speaking of weight... what is with the sudden increase of 10 lbs over night?

Well obviously with sleep comes added bumper weight. Im ashamed to be on a forum with you people not knowing that the longer you sleep the more your bumper weighs.... ok ok. I just wanted to impress yall! Is that such a crime? How come i have to work so hard to be accepted?! *crying* lol im j.k. I've noticed that lots of the RX's have like flat sided bumpers with black things on the edges. Is that a good explination? lol. ANyway, my bumper was a wrap around thing that horribly did not fit. Lots of the body ktis ive looked at online use the stock bumper. What should i do? This "bumper" if you will was supposed to be temporary. Also, i got an idea of just removing all that crap and riviting on some fiberglass or lexan around it. Would that be possible? has it been done? Am i from texas or what?
Ahh Young Grass Hopper, Your body mod days are growing at a pain stakeing rate. Keep up the persistance lad, If nothing else im shure theres a place for you In Junk Yard Wars. Jessie James started with a hack saw and some louvers at one time as well.
Go Get A Bumper, all that air is getting trapped under the hood and actually slowing you down

This has extreme potential...that stock front end steel bumper ain't gonna do squat in an accident, anyhow,,, ask me how I know...

Imagine a thin blade billet grill in place of all that plastic...that would be sweet...and expensive as crap to replace, but hey, style costs $$$, right??

Hey mar3 thanks for the positive input! Yeah, i want to put a billet grill or something in that place. Also, i was considering talking all that crap off all together and putting in a single or double chrome bar, welding it onto the bumper mounts such as on a Porsche SPeedster from the 50-60's or something like some Shelby Cobras. I have the image in my head and it has potential.

I had had a thought a while back about ditching the front bumper, skin and all. I was going to try to take another header panel and fit it to the bottom to mate with the front of the existing one, but with a 6 inch gap. Ideally the gap would have some kind of black mesh in it, and obviously the headlight cutouts would be filled.
Maybe someday. It's like # 287 on my "go 'head n try it" list. It was inspired by a photo of a custom rag-top fb. I no longer have the photo.

Does raw chrome ever go out of style? IT can't die! Its like the rice of the 50s. Wait this is an 80s car. Hmm... Maybe ill give it a mullet and a flying v guitar. So then I can roll down the street pumping, "Jump" by Van Hallen.
