Look, this should not be a flame war. I think the guys at that shop are doing a great job. As stated before, I glade I can do this stuff myself, or it would cost a shit load of $$$$. Oh, that door pod he used in that pic is one I threw out because it did stick out oo far. The new one fits perfect and does not intrude on leg space. Let me know the prices they gave you on those amps, I have been drooling over those since they came out.

P.S., those pods are fiberglass.

As far as posting pics I recommend using photobucket. Its really easy and lets you post larger pics.

I have speakers in the same location. Not angled but the pods stick out about 3 inches, then about another inch for the speaker surround. I've never had any problems with it hitting my leg while driving, but I do tend to kick the bottom of it when I get out of the car.

Cool. As far as the amps they are giving me a discount based on all the work being done and I have known these guys for a while. As I recall its $840 for the amps. I did see some great deals on ebay for about $700 plus the shipping. I hope they work as well as they claim because they are so small and light for there output.

What do you think of this headunit?

i like :)
i also shoulda bet yesterday, i hope you made out!

I have never used Kenwood headunits before. It looks like a nice piece. Make sure you have them wire it so you can watch while the car is driving. (On the DL) I think with Kenwoods all you have to do is ground the brake leed from the headunit. Alpines need a PAC converter to do it. I have neard nothing but great things about those digital Alpine amps. Shit my 1507 I'm using now has the same power as that small unit at 5 times the weight and 3 times the size. Its still a beast, the best Alpine ever made.

I hope you taking detailed pics for your book at contests.

djessence 02-04-08 01:19 PM

IIRC the PAC converter is not necessary it just makes life a billion times easier when wiring it vs trying to figure out how to bypass the gear/p brake sensor that makes it not work while in drive.

Im not overly a fan of kenwood units but that one does look quite nice. Ive found they are user friendly but cannot be customized to the same extent as others. Def better than sony IMO. I personally like the alpine, hard to figure out how to customize but once its figured out you can control quite a bit. Am a huge fan of panasonic "decks" vs the double din touchscreen head units.

Definetly a bit of flaming goin on in this thread. Lets get past that. Saying someone has been copied and watever is kinda a moot point since options are limited with space and placement of speakers and whatnot. And technically you can say anyone copied someone else cuz pretty much everything has been done before in 1 vehicle or another.

Good lookin job. Keep postin pics of everything when its full complete (head unit in etc)

We installed one of the 4 chanels on two sets of Kicker Compontes. Amp was 75 X 4. Birth certific that came with it said 120 X 4. Was almost to loud to listen to.

Also support your local shop on purchases like this. it sounds nice to save $100 bucks but they will support you with warrenty returns, small problems, and they are strugling to surrive. No cool custom stuff if they go out of business.

that is a nice setup i am designing a transmission line box that is angled for two twelves. i am going to use power acoustik they are a good company and very reasonably priced. i am using a 2000 watt d block amp to push them at one ohm. i like how clean your setup is. props to you on a great job.

that is a nice head unit but personally i am not a fan of double din head units like that. if i put a tv in mine i want a motorized fold out model because then i can just fold it and hide it from prying eyes and dirty fingers... but each to his own.

Things are coming along. The work is being completed when ever the guys aren't on another job. This is saving me quite abit and she's not a daily so its all good. I also keep changing and adding things. I have decided to go with a double din head uit from kenwood. Model DNX7100. Not yet installed.

Pretty much a must when you want to keep the rattles down. Also makes the system louder and sound better. Will also cut down the road noise as well. The doors are the most important, in my case because that is where my speakers are.

How the rear interior plastics attached? Seeing how you guys covered all the screw holes with that vinyl/leather?

Nope.

Our cars are the only ones that get worked on in this area, and mike only really did SPL for a while so the box changed for each comp cause he used a different sub at each comp.

I have been waiting on my circle jig to come in before working on on the rear pod any more. they left it out of my order last week, hope it will be in the end of this week.

joecoolly14 02-12-08 09:05 PM

So when you get everything hooked up let me know how the front speakers sound with your legs near them.. My friend has an s2k and his speakers are in a relative position and if you move your legs a certain way it muffles everything... though your tweeter is seperate.. Anywho let me know how it sounds.

Joe

OK, the car is done and sounds awesome. Sounds clear with really tight bass that you feel through your whole body.

Joecoolly no issue with my leg being next to the midrange driver.

I will be getting the completed pics up very soon along with a video.:)

Really? The screw holes are still there? Then point em out for me... There should be two screws flanking the hatch striker on the rear plastic... So...
