Fuel gauges & other stuff

I just got my latest Summit catalog in the mail, and right here on page 153 are Nordskog digital gauges. I've never heard of them either but the Digital Gauge Panel comes with a fuel gauge that "works with all sending units". Hmm.

The panel looks pretty interesting, it's a digital tach, speedo (electronically adjustable!), fuel, oil pressure, water temp, high beam indicator, turn signal indicators, and all the required sending units. For only $300.

I can't seem to ever find any digital tachs that have finer resolution than 100rpm. 10-rpm resolution would be sweeeet. I found one ONCE that had 50-rpm resolution but it was tiny, had no bar graph (numbers only), and I didn't have a car or a job at the time.

Watch out!

my buddy that did the summit guages in this 65 f250 has the same digital fuel guage, dam thig SUCKS, if he hangs a turn to fast it goes to 00 for 5 min. or so.... he called the company and they said it was a chip prob. so they sent him a new chip(we solder).... better but still no "fix"
But i do LOVE the water temp and volt, and A/F

i am eventually going to do something like that to my 79 guage cluster.. slightly different design though. i am definatly wanting some aftermarket gauges though, ones that actually work.....

in mine i am going to have a tac, spedo, fuel pressure, fuel level, and oil pressure..
then have water temp, oil temp, and a volt meter were the pocket in the dash is...

should be sweet. only problem is i have to wait until i get the money to do this... damn money....

Yup... As I said earlier in the tread, It was done in Corel PhotoPaint! as a basic layout for my custom dash. I doing the actual design work in AutoCAD, then I machine the dash blank with a CNC Router.

Anyways, I haven't had a lot of time to work on the project, but it's still moving along. I've almost got the shape of the blank right. Then I gotta buy the guages (as soon as I have enough cash)

I HOPE to have the dash done before the summer.

Thats pretty easy,,a flat "blank",,how a'bout plexi glass
instead of metal,,the plexi is more forgiving as you R&D.
are you going to use the clear piece over the front still ?
and how a'bout the red warning lights at the bottom
center ?? I think it would be sweet to retain some of the
stock look, while at the same time change the arrangment of each guage,,and upgrade the guages.
and no ****,,a lot of money,,,i don't like the pods myself.
guages should stay in the guage cluster for a clean
better then stock look, and all is within one wink of an eye,,,,good idea,,and good job ,,man

Well it took a while to do, but here's my layout for my custom dash is DONE.
Again, the base picture is from Matt's World 'o' Luvin. Thanks for letting me 'borrow' the pics (I gotta get a scanner )
From left to right, top to bottom:
Boost, Tachometer, Speedometer/Odometer, Water Temp, Voltometer, Fuel Level, Oil Press and Oil Temp
But the oil temp isn't a sure thing. I'm not 100% sure what should go there. Any advice is apreciated.
Also has anyone else used AutoMeter Phantom gauges?
Thanx,
-Spencer

That looks awsome. So when are you giong to market it so the rest of us could look that good?

The blank is harder to do than it looks, and like I said, not a lot of time to work on it *SIGH*

Anyway, I made the first 2 blanks out of particle board scraps, 'cause they're free and it doesn't much matter what the material is for now,

I'm planning on losing the clear peice from my dash 'cause the guages have thier own covers...

I'm trying to find a way to keep the warning lights in there, but so far have only mannaged to find room for about half of them.

I agree about the pods tho. That's one of the main reason I started on this project
I've seen a few pod setups that look cool, but they're not for me.

And the wiring shouldn't be too hard to do.

A few people have asked if I'm going to sell these after I'm done. I'm not sure yet, but it's quite possible I'll be able to sell limited numbers of the dashs. I'll post any info on the possibilty as I get closer to finnishing the project

what i'm meaning,,like the turn signals,hi-beams,hazard
lights, these things are connected through the steering
colum, and end up going through one of the two plugs
that connect to the back of the stock cluster,if you were
going to try to keep these items,or just do-away with'em
all new guages, senders, and lighting,i would think start
a whole new harnness for the new stuff,,,i really the 83
cluster you designed, and like me,you've opened alot
of eyes about such a project,,shopping the web for
autometer,SW,etc, guages,,big bucks is whats holding
back the idea,i totaly understand,,i to use AutoCAD,
if you need an outside idea, give me a shout..

one can not solve the problem,
with the same mind that created the problem.. AE.

I'm going to be using all new electronic senders, so I was thinking of doing up a new harness.

I honestly never thought there'd be nearly so much interest in my project, but I'm glad everyone likes it.

whats going, rather then something guessing,,i know any guage is better then none,,i think there's a lot
of 1st gen owners, that would like real instament guages,,your on to something good,,,now it's in the
back of my mind too..i hope your able to get it together
for your self,,because it does look real good,,,
see what you've started,,,lol
