Cruise control switch?

My car came with cruse control, but its never worked, so I yanked it out a long time ago. I need to replace the turn signal/wiper assembly, I have no turn signals. Can I replace the assembly with a assembly that doesn't have the cruise control switches since they go for less money. Or do I have to replace it with the proper part. I also want it so I don't have a ton of non functional buttons. if that makes sense.

What I want to know are the electrical connectors different for cars with or without cruise control?

Yes you can use the non-cruise mult-switch in place of the other one. Only difference is it won't have the cruise function on it.

Do you still have the Cruise control box in the engine bay? I don't have cruise anymore but I got creative and used that switch to control my carputer It just turns it on or off right now (I could of hooked up reset too but no real need for it). I do plan on having the middle button turn it on/off then going up and down would turn the volume up and down just like a fancy new car and makes it look stock lol

Now if I can only get the cruise control symbols up and put the proper labeling on there, it would be perfect

Like Doc said, no difference but the stalk containing the cruise control switch. FYI One screw holds the stalk in place. You can switch the cruise and no-cruise stalks very easily.

Are you trying to fix the no turn signal issue by replacing the switch? Do your flashers work? Do your dash warning lights work? Fuse on the right side, closest to driver's seat is meter back (dash warning lights). Fuse on left side 2nd forward from driver's seat is hazzard fuse. Either of these blown and the turn signals will not work. There is also a CPU, far left, under the dash. It contains the flasher unit and associated circuitry. These sometimes go bad.

Ok I got the new switch. thanks RX7doctor. everything now works on them but I still have no turn signals. So I took a look at the FSM and used the attached pic. Only problem is the pic doesn't match the plug. I also don't know how to use a voltmeter all too well. I did get some voltage in some of the wires. don't know which ones... I forgot. don't have the voltmeter anymore. So heres some more info. when they first stopped working they would occasionally work. now they never work. all fuses are good.

I'm thinking its the CPU. whitch I don't know where its exactly located. Is it the thing behind the fuse box near the clutch peddle area?

I cleaned everything with electrical parts cleaner, and no change.

Do the hazard lights work? Page 50:25 in the FSM (Section F in the wiring diagram) shows the CPU location. Upper right drawing, X-11. It is one of the things above and forward of the fuse block.

They didn't before. but now there is no hazard switch. I'm using a S3 multi switch. but I assume since it stoped working when the turn signals did that it wouldn't work. I suppose I could put the switch from my old one to the new one. It has the spot to mount it on.

Edit: the switch was broken. It had no returns, no brights, and it sometimes fell off. My whole steering comumb is junk. it leaks from the steering box, its colapsed (moves in and out) I bought my car with 7000mi on a rebuild by a "professional" (Well he is known I guess) for 800. It needed a new radiator, and driveshaft. and was good to go. I've been dayly drivng it since. theres been some issues.

There is a removeable flasher in the cpu. I've heard of them going bad. You will need a voltmeter to check the switch.

so its replaceable. thats good. I may have just remembered an issue I had right before or around the time they stoped working. I had a small engine fire that fryed a couple wires. I remember everything still worked around that time. this may have nothing to do with it but it may be it. I think I have a pic of the damage let me look.

Ok no pic sorry. I can't hook the camera up to the computer anymore since my usb got fubar'd. but if my memory serves me correct they are a yellow, and a green wire. on the firewall next to the carb.

Ok, so I've been reading the FSM some more and found this. Do you think since there is no Hazard switch that maybe thats why there not working? If thats the issue does anyone know How I can bypass this?

Yes there is a removable relay in the CPU for the flashers and blinkers in a FB. IIRC The CPU is located behind the fuse box toward the steering column under the dash. It may say FB02 or FB25 on it. I have had to change a couple of these out, and yes they do go bad. You may want to check there. Good luck, and be safe with no signals.

Hazard switch shouldn't cause a problem. You can test the plug for the CPU with a voltmeter. Lighting section in Chapter 15 of the FSM describes the test. Here is the CPU. The cube shaped cover next to the plug is the flasher cover. Tabs on each end. Squeeze the sides and pull it off. Under the cover is the flasher unit. Pulls right out. I don't know where to find a new flasher. I've always had a parts car with a working one.
