Crazy Idea but would it work??
Alright, i'm not sure if anyone has done this to an FB or not but i've been thinking about this crazy design. has anyone ever though to put a hood scoop in a sunroof that would cool an intercooler???? Is it just me or would that be a wicked idea?

The question is WHY? I bet the front grill is probably the part of your car that catches the most air... Think about it... You would also have to install an E-FAn to keep it cool while you were stopped.. It just puts a "back to the Future" look in my head..
Some things havent been done because it is not practical or even worth doing.. Remember that. Keep the ideas flowing but, umm, do it sober..

well i wasn't suggesting to put it persay ontop of my head ... that would be kind of dumb especially if it starts leaking. I was thinking about getting the air to travel to the trunk and have it mounted there.
well i guess that bottom line is i want a roof scoop on my fb, but i don't want it to be just for looks i want it to be p ractical too. Let me in on some ideas worth a shot.
another one of my crazy plan is to do an underlayer passage way for the air to be like somewhat like the jaguar xj220. but don't worry before i'm doing anything crazy to my actualy car i'm drawing an accurate 3d model of the car (inside - out ) and working from there. i'm not even 1/8th through it. If anyone here has done something like that before on autocad or anything other programs would you let me know. I would be interested in uploading that file.

that would be really dumb since you would have to make the intercooler pipes go all the way from the trunk up to the engine bay. That would give you lots and lots of boost lag..... i think

Having piping go from the intake at the very front of the car to the turbo toward the rear of the engine bay and then all the way through the passenger cabin and back again to the intake manifold would be really really unnecessarily long and probably pretty messy looking too. Like rotaryrudy said, it will probably give a lot of lag since the compressed air will have to travel twice the length of the car to get into the engine.
If you want a functioning roof scoop, just remove all your A/C equipment and vent the scoop into the cabin. Then your roof scoop functions as rally-style air conditioning.
Also, I'm pretty sure that particular Jag is mid-engined, so having air run to the rear of the car makes sense to keep everything closer to the motor.

The Jaguar Xj220 has whats called a venturi tunnel. Its not for cooling, but for aerodynamic purposes. The tunnels and the flat underside makes the car perform like a wing, but upside down. Hence, instead of making the car fly (wich is bad of course), it sucks the car to the ground at high speeds (and thats gooood!)
A friend of mine actually tried the roof scoop idea, but he had a radiator in the trunk, instead of a intercooler. It was a piece of **** idea, and the engine overheated!
Have you ever seen the front of a RX7? Since you obviously aint afraid of cutting an RX7 to shreads, why dont you just make a custom cooler and slap it on the front? Now that would work!
Also the front is pretty roomy, and has room for a big cooler.
Roof scoops are for rally cars, and Hondas! (and of course those who have seen a little to much Fast and the Furious)

Why would you want either intercooler or rad. in the truck...your robbing it of NATURAL cooling as well....as for the hood scoop, what is this car goign to be for, the sequel to fasnt and the frivilous? Looks good on some cars IMO....but definately not he FB....

my boss at my work had a roof scoop and said he was going to redirect the air to his rear brakes. I thought it looked pretty dumb. but if you have sun roof which more than likly you do, you could scoop your removable top and get a nice breeze while driving.

Just do what Directfreak did... Big Forkin' Front-mounted Intercooler in that spot below the bumper. Lots of good air flow there.
Besides.. think of your current wind noise... multiply it by fourteen thousand times... and the piping to and from the turbo/engine... the pump needed to move the coolant up that far, the mounting horrors... where would the air flow out of this contraption... and what would happen to your headroom? your trunkspace? your sanity if you sprung a coolant leak inside your car....
Some ideas rock.. some ideas don't... Some ideas come to people like me who are working at 1am on "Systems Analysis and Design" test cases at the college...
Get yourself some caffein... I'm going to!

i took out my heating/ventalation system...so what i have done is I made a fiberglass sunroof (the old one was really heavy) and I made it with a scoop which feeds 2 hoses which re direct cool air onto the back of your neck while driving...kinda like the new mercedes "air scarf"

and when it rains ? Does it dump water on your neck and down your backside ? What do you do when THAT happens ?
With your backside wet, just put a big potato in your pants front and act like nothing's wrong.
