is it possible it make or buy a crash box instead of a shift boot in a 1st gen like what the ferraris have?

a crash box is an unsyncronized transmission. old jaguars are infamous for them.

what you are talking about is an indexed shift cover.

you should have someone fabricate a cover- and mill/turn down the shift arm so it would fit, im sure its a decently easy job if you have the tools, just time consuming with the measurements. that would be bad *** if you do it!
