Angry crappy idle

I just got done tuning up my 82. New plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. The only thing i didn't replace was the coils. Anyway, my car still runs like sizzle in the lower rpm's, and when I am decclerating into a corner or to stop it pops and kinda backfires. Do i need to adjust the timing (i never set it when i tuned it up)? Maybe overhaul my carbs?

Is "sizzle" a good thing, or a bad thing? I ask because you don't mention the idle but you titled the thread about the idle.
If your idle is too rich, then it's a simple tuning job you need. If it's lean, and you're high in the RPMs, and tuning it does'nt help, then there is another source of air screwing things up for you.

"...and when I am decclerating into a corner or to stop it pops and kinda backfires."

This will happen. Don't worry about it. If you really don't like it that much, you can rejet the carb (s), but performance may suffer.

" Do i need to adjust the timing (i never set it when i tuned it up)?"

Ask everybody to start a fight over the "optimum" timing advance settings. I have mine set according to Paul Yaws instructions.

" Maybe overhaul my carbs?"

You have more than one? If you have a special dual set-up, then you already have enough to worry about just trying to get them the same. I sure would'nt be worrying over a few little backfires!

i know what your saying but my car sounds like **** when it idling. I have been working on this pos since i got it, and i f*cking tired of replace ****. I just want it to have a smooth idle. My carbs are a set(2) of 2 bbl. weber tipo carbs sitting on a rotary enginering intake.

Talk nicer about your car! You have an induction system that some would really love to have. Refering to your car as a "pos" is'nt gonna make everybody wanna help you!

I know you're frustrated, but we all go thru it. Once the problem is ironed out, you'll wonder how it is you ever had such evil thoughts as selling it!

What is your ignition timing set at? Has it ever been fucked around with by someone who does'nt know all they think they do?

This is what I would do...Keep in mind, I don't know much about your carb set-up at all. But I would make certain of fuel filter being clean, new plugs, inspect cap n' rotor, and wires, check yer timing- Just to rule out an ignition issue.

Then it's time to ask a Weber guru about the carbs.
Relax. You'll get it!
