CP Racing big brake kit update #2

Got the kit. Took about 3-4 days for CP to send it once they got my money. No problems there.

That's it. Two spindle adapters, two brackets, eight big washers and six copper ones, and two odd adapters for the oil seals. Oh yeah, and an installation tool that could function as a short peice of pipe in a pinch. $375.

I didn't get to install it.

I did however install the LSD I got a few weeks ago:

Install was pretty easy but I got stricken with some awful cold and it took me forever.

Here's a pic from an intermediate stage of being doneness that came out pretty crappy:

Notice the painted calipers. What you can't see are the SS brake hoses and hawk pads. The new rear end seems okay but I've got a few questions about it that I'll ask in another thread.

Here's one of me playing with some plastic polish I bought online. The stuff really works:

Unfortunately that's it for the update, since I'm still feeling awful and need some rest.

the two parts at the top are the spindale Adapters?

What are the two large round parts in the center.

Hades12, those things presumably adapt the oil seal on the end of the spindle. I don't have the directions here with me. Edit: They have "made in China" stickers on them.

The two parts at the top are the spindle adapters. They're hammered over the 84-85 spindle to let you use the bearings and hub from the 4-piston, 5 lug FC brakes.

The polish is from Caswell, it's:

F515-6165 Plastic Buffing Compound (Fine) $10.50

That's for a bigass bar. It looks great; the picture doesn't really capture the difference in color and gloss.

And, yes, the kit is very over-priced.

You know about the seal that's on the back of the of the spindle that keeps the grease inside the hub, right? Presumably, those things let you use the seal from the FC. I have no idea how since I'm not sure what the FC one looks like in comparison with the FB one, and I don't have the instructions handy. Sorry

Lets see.

Cotter pin, Nut, Washer, Front Bearing, Pull off the rotor. in the back of the rotor is the rear Bearing and the grease Seal.

The way I understood the write up over at mazspeed (where they got the idea) The adapter collor you beat on with the pipe steps down and seals the grease seal and holds the outer bearing .

I have never seen the guts of a 2nd gen Hub and I just can not see in my mind how that part workes, I understand the rest.

Thanks.

The rear looks good. Hope you enjoy the LSD. I have one I need to put together, and get in my car, But I plan to keep the drum brakes.

Now, I understand why they dont show that next to a $350.00 price tag. Im guessing that it's about $200.00, over priced. But hey us fb guys are made of money.

The two large rings are just wheel spacers, had to use them on a car I was driving after changing the wheels once. they just move the wheels out from the rotor, probably there to give you more space for the brake calipers. They are about $3.00 each.

btw, you have a really nice looking rear end there

hmm, those adaptors need to be hammered on eh? I wonder how hard it would be to remove them once in place if you ever needed to go back to the fb stuff. I realize that r&d time makes up part of the price, but seriously, how can they justify the price for those parts? I'm sure the the end result will be really nice brakes but thats a lot of money. Be sure to post install pics of those, I wanna see how it works out for you.

I have no idea if they could be removed. I doubt it. I think it would be easier to swap the entire spindles.

Maybe they are wheel spacers. I only skimmed the directions, like I said.

Thanks for noticing the rear end, remember with my new video and only thirty minutes a day, you could have yours looking just as fit.

Also, guys, I'm not putting down on CP or the kit. It's exactly what I expected. Quality of the parts looks to be real good. Sure it's over priced but I know I'm not paying for the parts alone. Compared to other brake kits by other companies, this one was a steal.

I got it because I have a set of BBS wheels from a 2gen convertible sitting around. Overall, it was a lot less than the cost of a new set of wheels and I get bigger brakes to boot.

Edit: Oh yeah, wwilliam54, the trick is to have your parents pay your tuition and not spend money on anything else We need to meet up sometime. I know I keep saying that but someday. Maybe when I shake this cold.

Well. if you have to buy all new TII brake components. If you get them outa a junk yard you get off ok. but damn, thats like 20.00 a washer wonder if you get a 50% price break if you get your own washers. Also, how long people will have to pay for more than parts alone?

The CP kit works with any 4 piston caliper 2nd gen brakes. They're all the same, Turbo and Non-Turbo, actually.

I paid $103 I think for the front brakes, rotors, hubs & bearings. That includes shipping.

Then I got some cross-drilled and slotted and snake-oil plated rotors off ebay for $49 shipped [!!] on ebay and some green stuff pads from tire rack for $50.

All and all it's not too much for a set of sweet brakes and a bolt pattern conversion. Plus, replacement parts for the 2nd gen brakes are cheaper than the ones for regular 12a brakes.

so are you having the rear axles drilled to accomodate the fc lug pattern or are you rolling 2 different wheels for now? If you are getting the axles drilled I'd be intersted in seeing what that costs you...

They should at least throw in a set of wheel adapters for the rear at that price for us 110mm folks. I just happened to get a real nice set of wheels for my 7 in the 110 pattern so I really dont wanna mess with my bolt paterns now
